Thanks to Fah Thai for nominating Gecko Villa as its green lodging of choice in Udon Thani province. The May-June edition of the in-flight magazine of Bangkok Air - Thailand's boutique airline - featured us alongside selections in other destinations served by the Thai  airline.

With flights to Udon Thani now offered by Bangkok Air and Thai from Bangkok's main international airport and by  Nok and Air Asia from Don Muang, access to this northeastern  province of #Thailand is now easier than ever, for both domestic and international visitors.

Note and Joy, our eldest twins, were initiated as monks today in the local village temple. They arrived for the ordination in the white robes of initiates, and after the rituals and ceremony, emerged in the saffron robes of  the Thai monkhood.

Flying to #Thailand ? Avoid missing your connecting flight by being aware that there are two airports in Bangkok.

The majority of international flights fly in to Suwannabhumi International airport (airport code BKK), which is also used by Thai Airways and Bangkok Air as their base for domestic flights. Local low cost airlines Nok Air and Air Asia fly from Don Muang airport (airport code DMK).

It is advisable to allow around 3 hours for a  taxi transfer between the airports. The best advice is simply to ensure that if you are planning on catching a connecting flight in Bangkok, you check that your arriving and departing flights will be made from the same airport.

Google has now invited us to use their personalized Google+ address. This will make it a lot easier for people to find us via the simple URL rather than the long-winded string of numbers that used to make up our Google+page address.

We see this as a positive step, not dissimilar to Facebook users' ability to create a special and easily remembered page name.

Got your shortened Google+ page address yet?

As the surrounding rice farming villages come alive with lilting "molam" music, and  welcome home villagers from Bangkok and beyond, we wish all our guests and friends a truly enjoyable New Year celebration - and a  very happy and prosperous New Year.

The emerald rice paddies and pink lotus lake near Gecko Villa were part of the backdrop for a Thai wedding celebration held recently at Green Gecko and Gecko Villa. The happy couple and guests had flown in from the United States.

The morning started off with a lotus lake boat trip, where quite by chance a Thai television crew from Channel 7 spotted the lucky couple and took the chance to film an impromptu interview. Later in the morning, traditional Thai wedding  ceremony blessings were performed by monks and village elders, before a north eastern Thai lunch at Gecko Villa.

In the afternoon there was time to relax by the swimming pool, before chilled champagne in the rice paddies followed by  dinner at Green Gecko. A variety of Thai and Lao dishes were served, including "laap", spicy green papaya salad  and a suckling pig roast. Desserts included the famous Thai  mango and sticky rice, as well as freshly cooked coconut cakes. Later in the evening guests enjoyed  a traditional northeastern Thai dancing "molam" performance, fireworks and dancing on the hardwood pool deck.

Everyone at the villas would like to thank the happy couple for entrusting us with the arrangements for this very special day...and we hope they will keep happy memories of the event during their long life together!
