Here we go again. THAT TOPIC. But hang on. The approach discussed here (and in the Ceylon language) is not something you see every day. At the same time, it is very cunning. Nulls are baked into the language … or so it may seem. Indeed, in Ceylon, like in…

New post about #CDI SPI
CDI users ask me very often why they should adopt CDI and stop using their old framework of way of doing their developments. The answer to this question can be found in advanced CDI stuff: extension mechanism and CDI SPI. Yes, CDI true killing feature is not accessible out of the box and you ...

With our new browser interop module it's getting easier and easier to write client-side Ceylon!

It's my believe that being able to use the same language on the server and client side is one of the key strengths of Ceylon.
Are there any recommendations for frameworks that take advantage of that for writing SPA web apps? That'd seem very promising.

The humiliation of the PSUV in the recent parliamentary elections may not save Venezuela from hyperinflation and economic collapse. (Oh, and Spanish readers, please note: when Maduro decided to double down on suicidal idiocy, he brought in a Catalan economist linked to Podemos to help him out with that. One in five of ya'll just voted for a party whose policies would take Spain down the path of Venezuela and Argentina. You guys really aren't thinking this through.)
With Luis Salas's appointment as economics Vice-president, the radicals have won a decisive victory in the fight to dictate economic policy. Their ascent could mean the deepening of the economic crisis and the descent into hyperinflation, hastening the end of Maduro as well.

And one month after the release of 1.2.1 we're happy to announce the latest 1.2.2 version!

The release contains mostly bug fixes but there are some notable enhancements and features:

- you can now use java.lang.Iterable and arrays in for statements and comprehensions,
- the [] lookup operator works on Java lists, arrays and maps,
the in operator works on java.util.Collection
- `ceylon.html` was rewritten according to HTML5 specification and with support for lazy evaluation
- a new ceylon bootstrap command to make it really easy to distribute code to people that don't have Ceylon installed.

See here for more information: http://www.ceylon-lang.org/blog/2016/03/11/ceylon-1-2-2/

Or go directly to the download: http://www.ceylon-lang.org/download/
Four months after the last major release and exactly one month after the 1.2.1 update, Ceylon 1.2.2 is a new maintenance release, with over 70 issues closed, including new features, improvements and bug fixes such as: you can now use java.lang.Iterable and arrays in for statements and ...

We've done it again! Ceylon 1.2.1 containing some important fixes and changes was released today. Go and get it now!

Almost 100 issues were closed, including new features, improvements and bug fixes such as:

- you can now iterate java.lang.Iterable values in for statements and use java.lang.AutoCloseable values in try statements,
- support for Java 9 and Jigsaw modules,
- experimental support for type functions on the JVM,
- reduced run-time dependencies for your Ceylon program,
- better interoperation with JavaScript arrays,
- better compatibility with previous and future Ceylon releases.

The rest you can read here:

In which I reluctantly conclude that it's quite difficult to condemn a group of people who believe that armed insurrection is a morally defensible response to half-decade prison sentences for acts that were (a) non-violent (b) unintentional and (b) caused no harm any person. Mandatory minimum sentences have destroyed countless lives, and made a mockery of the notion of justice, but America's political class has shown little interest getting rid of them.
A federal judge rejected mandatory minimums for Dwight and Steven Hammond as unconstitutional; an appeals court disagreed.

+Todd Sproule Whether the mainstream media is hypocritical is of utterly zero interest to me since I long ago stopped paying any attention to it. And I don't think I'm letting my biases show here. Sure, these protests are being viewed by a certain kind of simpleton as "right wing", and that's coloring the response to them from both left and right. But, FTR, I don't condemn leftist Black Lives Matter protestors either, even though I think that their tactics (property crimes against private businesses in their own neighborhoods) are almost certainly counter-productive, and that their analysis of the problem (that police brutality is primarily a result of racism) is substantially mistaken.

If one is skeptical of state power, one is inclined to defend those who resist its misapplication, whether the resistors identify with one's own "team" or not.
