With +Jill Doughtie, at Pitfire Pizza in Pasadena, I portrayed a pink polka-dotted potty in purple plasticine, permeated with powerful and perhaps poisonous yellow liquid.

"Software companies are the ones who stand to inherit the consumer photographic market even DSLRs from the Japanese"
It’s well known that DSLR sales are sliding now, following the worrying trajectory of compact cameras. Then I read with great interest Vincent Laforet’s prediction that the era of stand-alone cameras is coming to an abrupt end for the mass market. There was a very key chart in that blog post which you can seeRead More

I agree that the solution is better apps integration, but I don't know that putting apps on the camera is the right approach.

I always envisioned the personal cloud being a set of interconnected devices, each one good at some things and not so good at others. Some devices have a nice screen (glasses and/or tablet). At least one device had a solid app library and effective control UX (could be the same device with the nice display, but maybe another device if your best display is in your glasses). At least one device has network connections to the rest of the planet. One device would have good audio and mic and usually be on/near your head. You've got some storage.

And when you wanted it, you could carry a camera that just worked. It had the level of control complexity suitable for your needs. It took amazing images (stills or video). And it talked to the rest of your devices. Images or video was available for review on your displays. Images and video could be shared trivially to the rest of the world via the apps you've installed on your core device, etc.

But trying to control something like android apps through the camera UI? Color me skeptical that that's the solution we'll end up with. I'm also highly skeptical that smartphone cameras, even with better optics and apps, can replace anything but snapshot cameras (good riddance to those, IMHO).

For now just integrate the camera with your phone via an app that allows the external camera to act like it's a device on the phone (with all of the apps integration that entails). The rest will follow.

I'm still fairly speechless that this works.  As "the train" started to move, I just kept repeating, "No way!"  Pretty amazing.  Thanks for posting!

Not to shill for Apple particularly, but just a note that the high-end DSLR market is about to implode. Video comes next. Hope the phone cameras begin to emulate larger sensors soon.
Incredible photos and videos shot by iPhone 6 users.

My lovely and talented cousin Terryn Westbrook in her umpteenth national spot.
We all know Latin America is home to great coffee, but who knew this included McDonald's McCafe? Watch as the coffee beans are roasted and brewed to perfection. The final result is so good, you can almost taste it without actually tasting it. Once you do taste the coffee, you might end up enjoying it more quickly than these people taking it in spoonfuls.

Amazing barrel-aged cocktails. Delicious but crazy strong. Two will definitely knock you flat.

Fantastic siphon coffee; calm, relaxing atmosphere; Wi-Fi; interesting folks; occasionally see one of my favorite movie stars (no, I won't tell you stalkers who it is) quietly hanging out.

Fantastic sushi and lovely atmosphere. Huge fan of the original Nozawa, it's nice to have the same quality here in Santa Monica.
