I'm glad that there are some great social media sites where photographers
can showcase their work and meet other like minded people. It is such a great way to learn various styles of photography and have discussions.

Hopping over from Facebook to Google+, it's time that I thank all the wonderful photographers, visitors and theme moderators for their kind words
of encouragement and promoting my work. Through these sites, I have come
to form such good friendships.

Lets dance
Sandhill Cranes.
Bosque, New Mexico, Dec 2012

Whether you are into bird or any other form of nature and wildlife photography, it is important that you shoot with a purpose to create an impact with your images. Your images should tell a story and hold the viewer. There are various elements that need to come together for that to happen.

That is the topic of my latest blog post, please check it out by clicking on the link below:

A morning in Bosque
Bosque Del Apache, New Mexico. November 2012

Bosque is all about big blastoffs of Geese and Cranes, beautiful landscapes and gorgeous sunrises. I spent two weeks hoping to capture that essence in a single shot.

When I look back at this image, I'm overcome with a sense of joy and strong emotions. I got up everyday early in the morning hoping to witness this wonder and photograph it, determined to create some magical shots. I remember the last morning I woke up, wondering if I was going back empty handed.

At roughly 6:40am what I though could not happen finally happened, a morning in Bosque that I had dreamed of.

From my latest blog post "Bird Photography Tips: Keeping it real in post processing":

"Sadly, with the growth of digital photography and the advent of software’s like Photoshop, a lot of image manipulation is being done and to a level of perfection which is downright scary. Now, every time I look at an image, I’m wondering more about it’s authenticity then it’s sheer beauty, was an object removed? Was something added?"

Click on the link below to read more about the role of software's such as Photoshop and Lightroom in my photography. Please feel free to leave comments on the post.

Ashy Prinia
2nd May, 2013. New Delhi

I photographed this very vocal Ashy Prinia this morning in my backyard. These little birds like to perch up high, I decided to let the bougainvillaea shrub grow higher and leave some parts to grow taller. There is a building with red bricks in the background which makes for a pleasing reddish background. I moved around till I could frame the bird where I wanted, I like the combination of the red and the Green with the little beauty perched on the top. Tomorrow I will be using fill flash to make similar images and the results will be quite different.

The summer is going to be a hot one, remember to leave out some water in a bowl or a birdbath for our feathered friends :)

Story
Tagline
A bird photographer, an earth wanderer and a lover of all things wild.
Introduction
“The images a photographer makes are a reflection into their own lives. They are not only a mere presentation of their subject but a reflection into a photographers connection to them, their style and to a large extent their perception of their own reality”.

My name is Gaurav Mittal, I consider myself to be a bird photographer, an earth wanderer and a lover of all things wild. I’m based out of Washington D.C. and spend most of my time traveling from D.C. to Delhi, the two cities I call home.  After having spent over ten years as a tax consultant in the U.S., I have decided to pursue my passion for the wild and photography.

My passion for photographing birds began last year in Bosque Del Apache, New Mexico. There, observing the Sandhill Cranes brought a sense of harmony and a new vision to me. A moment I fondly call, “Kissed in The Mist” left me with a vision to continue further and explore birds and how I see them in my life.

Besides photographing birds in their natural habitat, I also like to explore my creative and artistic vision, often thinking like a painter. Some of my images will have a surrealistic and painterly feel, and my idea is to present my images in a way which evokes a feeling, feelings which are often inspired by a dramatic or a beautiful scene, a moment captured in time.

Please join me on this journey I have embarked upon.
