"The people who oppose [action against climate change] are really hurting our children and grandchildren and making the world a much worse place,” [Google Chairman Eric] Schmidt said on NPR’s “Diane Rehm Show” yesterday. “We should not be aligned with such people. They are just literally lying.”

"Skeptics" finally receive the attention they so desperately seek.

“In recent decades, we have observed an alarming increase in people who refuse to acknowledge the reality of global warming, which has exceeded even our worst-case projections.”

“At this point, so much pseudoscience and misinformation have been released into the world that we simply have to accept that those who refuse to ‘believe’ in objective scientific fact aren’t going away. All we can do is attempt to minimize their impact on our planet.”

WASHINGTON—In a worrying development that could have dire implications for the health of the planet, a report published Wednesday by the Environmental Protection Agency suggests that the number of climate change skeptics could reach catastrophic lev...

Good observation.  Unfortunately, denialists always deny the data that denies their denial.

Besides, individually, people are more likely to notice stupidity, and think it's more relevant than skepticism.  Skepticism is measured globally, while stupidity is a local condition.

Stupidity might be lower in one place, but higher everywhere else.  The average is up, month over month, as the models predicted. Average global stupidity keeps rising, but people mistake it for skepticism.

The problem is we got a bunch of guys with a bunch of degrees in "science" trying to make us read all these long explanations, when we can SEE what's happening for ourselves!

Memo: From Nick Hanauer
To: My Fellow Zillionaires

"Seeing where things are headed is the essence of entrepreneurship. And what do I see in our future now? I see pitchforks."
Memo: From Nick HanauerTo: My Fellow ZillionairesYou probably don’t know me, but like you I am one of those .01%ers, a proud and unapologetic capitalist. I have founded, co-founded and funded more than 30 companies across a range of industries—from itsy-bitsy ones like the night club I started in my 20s to giant ones like Amazon.com, for...

Q: Why did Elliott Rodgers shoot women, instead of #snapchat CEO Evan Spiegel et al -- the source jerks?  Discuss.

I’ve known Evan Spiegel, Snapchat CEO and co-founder, for a while now. We have had more than half a dozen in-person conversations, far more phone calls, and..

The correction points out that the original paper concluded that “there were net benefits of climate change associated with warming below about 2°C”, but the updated analysis shows “ impacts are always negative ”.

A journal article claiming that moderate amounts of global warming have overall positive benefits has been quietly corrected after Bob Ward pointed out a number of errors. The updated analysis now ...

"At the bottom quintile of income, Republicans are not significantly different from either Independents or Democrats" with respect to their denial of climate risks, the study reports. It's only as income increases that Republicans become so much more likely to be deniers."
We already knew about the "smart idiot" effect. Now, meet the "rich idiot" effect.

Rich democrats aren't much better. I have a wealthy, purportedly liberal, relative that flies all over the world, saves every tiny scrap of aluminum foil for recycling and pointedly ignores climate change.

A modest proposition to address circumstances in Iraq, simultaneously ending the need for a "War on Terror":

1. Physically detain Cheney, Bush, Rumsfeld and the five others indicted by the Kuala Lumpur War Crimes Tribunal.

2. Offer to deliver those eight to trial in exchange for specific concessions from Islamic extremists worldwide, including Iraq.

3. Follow through, including by providing evidence of their crimes to assist in prosecution.

As honorable patriots, these men would gladly take any punishment due them; Islamist extremists worldwide would be compelled to accept the terms; and the US would appear once gain to be a nation of laws.

Win-Win-Win!

ALEC is unalloyed evil, pure and simple. But, "Don't be Evil" is merely a motto -- let's focus on mission, instead. Officially, "Google's mission is to organize the world's information and make it universally accessible and useful." In that light, Google has shown terrible judgment. CEI and Inhofe -- following ALEC's mindless lead -- share a mission to make inaccessible or useless some of the most valuable data ever known. Google has no business -- literally, no viable business purpose -- throwing in with their ilk.
