"These modern ignoramuses are doing worse than merely fiddling while Rome burns—they are staring at the flames, and arguing that it is not hot."
Scientists are begging the world to address climate change. Meet the handful of American science deniers who are ensuring it won't happen.

New today:  one of the best denial-debunking analyses yet, from Tamino's Open Mind.  Think of the time you'll save arguing about the "15-year hiatus"!

I highly recommend that people read this and bookmark it for later reference when dealing with climate change deniers.

There was no "pause" in global warming. It's totally inaccurate to say there was anything of the sort.

With all the fine, constructive, hopeful philanthropic causes available, some choose to fund the expansion of ignorance.

A new study conducted by Drexel University's environmental sociologist Robert J. Brulle, PhD, exposes the organizational underpinnings and funding behind the powerful climate change countermovement. This study marks the first peer-reviewed, comprehensive analysis ever conducted of the sources of funding that maintain the denial effort.

This may be the first time I've ever "shared" a G+ post -- it's that good.

+Rennie Allen Ag subsidies are some of the biggest hogs in all outrageous pork land. I thought that was pretty common knowledge. And to some of the smallest most privileged groups in the US. Sugar producers for example and well as corn for ethanol, milk to tiny producers in Vermont, and much much more.  I'm sure they are carving that out for cannabis along the lines of tobacco if they can get away with it.

True, but he'd have gotten you to burn copies of Nature and Science, so he might at least be in a good mood ;-)

Imagine what the far right could accomplish with so much energy if they switched to any constructive motives.

Yes, they’re still going on about President Obama’s vacations.

I’m not sure where the Republican outrage was hiding when George W. Bush spent a third of his entire presidency on vacation. It’s okay, after all, if you’re a Republican.

The president is the president wherever he goes: the infrastructure comes with him, which is why vacation travel is paid by the White House as official travel. It comes from the White House budget, of course, not some mysterious slush fund that wouldn’t be spent absent presidential vacations – eschewing Hawaii would afford him a few more policy speeches in various cities, or a few more czars, and afford the country a tired president who hasn’t had an opportunity to relax lately. This doesn’t stop his political opponents from attacking the expense, especially with Michelle staying behind and returning separately.

They tally his rounds of golf and gym workouts; they count his hikes and beach visits, and catalog his restaurant outings. The Washington Times even took a jab at him for not attending church while in Hawaii. (I wonder how many of them tore themselves from A&E’s Duck Dynasty marathon to attend a Christmas service?)

Carefully worded statements mislead readers into thinking the Hanauma Bay Nature Preserve was closed to the public because the First Family were visiting – not that they visited on a day when it is normally closed anyway – and that the Honolulu Zoo was closed for a presidential visit, not that the visit took place after normal closing time. Where no public inconvenience exists, it must be manufactured.

And, they knock the Obamas for living “like royalty,” while misrepresenting his statement as criticizing Congress for going home for the holidays – not for failing to extend unemployment benefits, which they don’t want you thinking about.

I’m sure we’ll be hearing the same tired, old lines until 2017.

ALEC is unalloyed evil, pure and simple. But, "Don't be Evil" is merely a motto -- let's focus on mission, instead. Officially, "Google's mission is to organize the world's information and make it universally accessible and useful." In that light, Google has shown terrible judgment. CEI and Inhofe -- following ALEC's mindless lead -- share a mission to make inaccessible or useless some of the most valuable data ever known. Google has no business -- literally, no viable business purpose -- throwing in with their ilk.
