Great link. But that quotation is slightly out of context. It's actually "34% of the biomass due to obesity." In other words, if I understand correctly, North Americans are carrying 34% of the extra weight, beyond the healthy level. If we actually had 34% of the total biomass, we would have to be on average about 8 times as heavy as an average person on other continents.
