The scuba diver mentioned in the post is my (Tec) diving instructor and according to him it was a fascinating experience.
First, calling a phone that's underwater is harder than it sounds... Apparently no one thought about the fish when the gsm networks were designed. Second, convincing people to actually take the call was again way harder than it should've been. In any case, great marketing!
Samsung came up with a great way to highlight that its Galaxy S5 is water resistant. A diver appeared out of Lake Zurich offering the phone to those sitting on the water's edge if they'd jump in and do an underwater selfie. And you won't believe what happened next....

+Krista Brown In defense of the driver, it's possible that (for a left side driver) he / she did not see the pedestrian - especially if concentrating on getting through the gate before the bar came down, again.  And why would somebody be walking right by the gate, without looking for oncoming traffic?

Note that the car did not initially hit the pedestrian.  It is not the fault of the driver that the pedestrian was lying there.
