Dicentra Spectabilis, aka Old-Fashioned Bleeding Heart
A sure sign of spring here in Delaware is when the Bleeding Heart flowers bloom. I photographed this one a couple of years ago in my own garden.

Museum-quality prints, posters, and postcards are for sale online (without the logos) — http://bit.ly/1nsKJCj

Snowy Egret — Bad Hair Day
Murrells Inlet, South Carolina, USA
All right, if you want to be a stickler, they're feathers. Snowy egret feathers stand erect when they become agitated or excited.

Museum-quality prints (without the logo) are available online. http://bit.ly/1kYtxac

Yosemite National Park, California, USA
One of the most majestic and awe-inspiring locations in the US, Yosemite Valley attracts photographers like bees to honey.

Here I scanned an old slide, then digitally color-tinted, and finally added texture and the metallic frame.

Museum-quality prints of this artistic image (without the logos) are available online. http://bit.ly/1oz6nsU

Please share my latest photo-based digital art image of Mount Rushmore.

Mount Rushmore in Blue
Near Rapid City, South Dakota, USA
One of the truly iconic American landmarks, the busts of US Presidents Washington, Jefferson, Roosevelt, and Lincoln were sculpted into the side of a mountain from 1927 through 1941.

For this image I digitally enhanced my old Mount Rushmore color slide to give it the appearance of the presidents faces glowing under a starry nighttime sky.

Museum-quality prints and postcards are available online. http://bit.ly/1lqULn1

Mittens Buttes, Monument Valley, Utah/Arizona border, USA
With a little artistry I've reduced the buttes into silhouettes of their iconic shapes. They're probably the most recognizable landmark of the entire Old West.

Museum-quality prints, posters, and postcards are available online (without the logo). http://bit.ly/PjlOpp

Glade Creek Grist Mill, near Beckley, West Virginia, USA
I just finished digitally retouching an old photograph which represents Appalachian mountain life in the last century. I converted my iPhone color original to sepia-toned black and white to impart a more vintage, antique look and feel.

True icons of the desert, these saguaro cacti posed for a formal portrait.

Saguaro Cactus Trio in Sepia
Saguaro National Park, Tucson, Arizona, USA
The first-time visitor to Saguaro National Park is typically stunned at the enormous size of a mature saguaro cactus — up to 50 feet tall. I hope I've done the saguaro proud in my new sepia-toned black-and-white print.

Badlands National Park, South Dakota, USA
There's hardly a more alien-looking place on the planet than the Badlands of South Dakota. Here's my newest image, redone from an old color slide, which dramatically shows the otherworldly landscape in sepia-toned black and white.

Scientist Turned Fine Art Photographer
Introduction
After a first career as an organic chemist in the pharmaceutical industry, I'm now a freelance photographer, digital artist, and writer.

I'm applying my love of learning, problem solving, attention to detail, and the scientific method toward creating beautiful fine art landscape and nature photographic prints.

I currently have two outlets for displaying my images on the Internet: Waltzing Rainbows Images (my online fine art print gallery) at http://www.WaltzingRainbows.com, and at Fine Art America at http://fineartamerica.com/profiles/gary-cain.html .

I'm also sharing my images, stories about them, and how-to tips in my photography blog, Gary Cain Photography, at http://www.GaryCainPhoto.com.
