I am impressed, annoyed, and somewhat scared that my phone beats me at chess.

My birthday is coming up. I'd love to see some photos of E8 shirts in the wild. And we just got more in stock. http://www.blondegeek.net/E8/
(As seen on the History Channel's Invention USA) A worthy Theory of Everything needs to look good on a T-shirt, and E8 Theory lives up to the promise. These stylish shirts, designed with the help of Garrett Lisi, show all the known elementary particles of physics and how they interact, ...

Nope. But we'll have some Pacific Science Institute shirts soon, in charcoal.

I don't often give movie recommendations, and it's not surprising or upbeat, but "The Fault in Our Stars" is quite good.

PSI is now sporting an impressive pair of X-Quad antennas from Planet Labs, for tracking their Dove satellites (and scaring the neighbors).

Yesterday at Honolua a local guy spit in my face and called me a "donkey." I'm pretty sure that's Hawaiian for "extremely talented surfer."

Eww , assault with a bodily fluid is a criminal act. The few times I had conflicts in the water on Maui, I just went in. It's the universe saying: Time to go brah!

I don't care how nifty they are, I am not going back to wearing a watch. At least, not yet.

Thinking of them as watches is like thinking of smartphones as just phones.

Introduction
I'm an unusual physicist. After getting my Ph.D. from UC San Diego, I moved to the island of Maui to find an optimum balance between surfing and pursuing my own theoretical research. While pulling at a loose thread in the foundation of Quantum Field Theory, I soon found myself looking at the most beautiful unified model of particle physics anyone had ever seen. My story and work have been featured at TED, in Outside Magazine, The New Yorker, and recently in Scientific American.
