UNDERSTANDING GOOGLE+ v2.0

Ok, so this is the second version of Understanding Google+ and it should be very useful for all the newbies. I would've also added: "Want to see influencers and statistics? -> View Ripples", but there's no more space for that.

Feel free to share it to help everyone and give me some feedback on the original post:

Thanks for sharing that +Gabriel Vasile I got a great idea from that, about making a links circle. :)
I have a question you may be able to help me with. I'm sure a few others would be interested to know too and maybe you could put the answers on "Understanding Google+ v3.0".
This may or may not be something real simple that I am overlooking, but how do you stop someone in your circles from displaying in your stream, without removing them from circles altogether? Just shut them up for awhile, without deleting them or blocking them. Can you create like a Silent circle to put them into for awhile?

+Gabriel Vasile Thank you very much, I knew it would just be something simple, but sometimes the simple things elude me. lol

this scheme is very overloaded with all these graphic elements and not so intuitive. Making it easier to perceive would lead in more people to get it right.

first of all i'd make #ffffff(white) background and #000000(black) text - it's really more convenient for people's perceiving. And really all these elements are sitting very densely to each other that worsens information perceiving and recognition.

The Bookmark circle is a great idea! Mine is a variation, "Note to Self".

is it possible to see this bigger? I cannot read much of it.

This is a very useful map for a newbie like me. Going to print it and post near the computer.

yes, my screen is very old though. Clicking on it makes it bigger just not big enough for me to read it very well.

+Gabriel Vasile Good job.. admittedly its alot of information in a small area, but I think its very good. Not to pic nits, as I think this is helpful enough to share, you misspelled "interested" on item #10.

Hahah I enjoyed this. +Gabriel Vasile if you make a 3.0, you should spell 'interested' on #10 correctly. Other than that it's pretty much perfect.

Missing item: how to see a photo full-size. The only way I figured out to do this is to download it and open it with Gimp... couldn't read it on the screen, and making the browser full screen didn't change the photo size.

+bryan mckeon try right clicking the opened pic and saving it to your pictures folder, then opening the pic from there with a photo viewer program, that will enable you to zoom in on the pic.

That graph makes perfect sense to me and I like it - but can imagine others thinking it's complicated and not wanting to have to go through all of that at once. If I were drafting it up, I would break it into 13 completely separate graphs for the individual tasks. To much information at once will turn people away.

I like it. Just enough information- I need as much as possible.

WHOA, Good info but way to busy for non techies. Might look better if you put each # in it's own colour codded "bubble".

It's actually quite simple and not very technical, once broken down and separated. Ignore everything else in the image except for the arrow strain you are following.

pero como salgo de mi cuenta aqui

Permit anonymous identities and I'm in. I'm not really interested in expressing some of my interests to the entire world only to have some future income potential eliminated, thank you.

well flow diagram of Google+ thats good for non-understandable

very nice
and it is also a very good thought

now i understand ..thks mate ..

and I just dicovered plus-minus woohoo - txs Gabriel - you get +1

+Gabriel Vasile The Send feedback button is very important. Whenever you wish for something that you got used to exploiting on Facebook... Send feedback. Some of the things I (and certainly many others) have fed back are now Plus features. Cool!

Thanks so much, it helps me alot!

I hadn't even thought of the bookmarks circle idea. Genius!

The "delete this post" makes g+ better than other social networks :) also nice infographic

The font is too small and the white print on black
background is impossible to read. Too bad, I
would like to have read it but will not resort
to a magnifying glass.

Don't tell me to enlarge the JPEG - that only
distorts it.

Your comment column width is twice
as wide as it needs to be.

i dont like the new google+!!! i like the old buzz!

oh great, easy way to understad google+.

You got it in one .. ummm 13.16 I mean .. sooo simple to understand G+ now n you're circled Woot!

any1 else here a teen ? be my friend!! =D

Thanks for sharing this..........

If you want to restrict someone uploading pics for a page, can we restrict that ?. Are there any 'No' options for the #2 ?

Superb flowchart that will make an excellent reference for my collection. Thanks!

flowchart is nice and useful to me and to all users who uses Google +

Thanks so much for your work and for taking the time for making it as simple as possible for the newbies. I found it easy to follow and the advice made sense to me, so thanks..

theres already 105 comments so i'm not sure if someone has already mentioned this but if you add chrome extensions for google+ into the mix your options are limitless.

Amazing Gabriel...just downloaded the extension. It will make my incoming stream much more uselful

14. Have any friends, family or colleagues on G+?

---- No --------> Continue using gmail, google groups, facebook, and linkedin to communicate with friends, family, and colleagues
-- Yes ---------> Congratulations, you're one of the lucky 1%

this doesn't make much sense in my mind.... but then again i didn't really read it :/

very cool and easy understand.
Well done.

Love it...vry useful...thank a lot...but i believe some prbls r still arising in Google+

people should take note of the gibberish or appreciation section and just +1 posts. This picture has 1112 less 'nice,'or 'greats' than it would without it.

This really complicated.

Wow, that's complicated and yet very understandable

I was totally going to comment simply, "Love it." but then I realized that it would break one of the rules. So then I decided to post this anecdote. Woot!

I love Google and can't live without google it is one of the most remarkable search engines. I can find anything on that google. I really appreciate you sharing

I always like if information is presented in this way, reminds me of Tony Buzan's book on Mind Maps.. G+ is getting right by presenting visual information like the Circles and the Ripples.. But still i feel a lot more useful stuff could have been done with the Circles visual..

It would simplify things if drop down menus were used. Can you do that on this type of page? There, all AVAILABLE options would be listed. Hover over a person's picture and right click...drop down menu gives u a list of what you are able to do. Hover over or posts or circles, same thing. Not in the drop down?...then you can't do "it" to "that." User friendly! It greatly reduces entering the wordy help page to search for options! It would also shorten the help page options CONSIDERABLY! Otherwise, make SURE the options CLEARLY state what they do and/or make some short video tuts next to each option. I am still trying to VERIFY whether circles can see each other's posts...I don't think so, but can't find it written anywhere. Handy feature if you have divorced friends or those pairs that just don't get along! BTW...great flow chart...wish it was that simple to find them on the site.

Great creation!! Making it easier to learn!

What is the difference btwn a "hang out" and "circle?" Confusing.

Why do some silhouettes have names on them when I put them in a circle and others don't? Makes me think I did something wrong, but not sure to which ones. Had a little difficulty figuring out how to delete duplicates too.

The circles are very congested and hard to read. The contacts are above the circles, but not grouped. Bigger circles maybe and group the contact lists if they are not deleted when entered into a circle?

What happens when this post is no longer on the "what's hot" list? How will I find it? Seems like they are changing pretty rapidly!

How about some useful widgets on one side bar? current day's weather forecast, breaking news, celeb news, etc. Maybe G+ navigations on the left sidebar and "outside/daily" stuff on the right sidebar. Keeps things organized. Then you could G+ while checking the headlines and weather before you are off to work. Would be nice to view news videos without leaving the page. Listen to news while reading posts. One stop info!

I am new to google+ and I consider this helpful, thank you

yes lovely!!! i used to love it earlier on FB now on G+ :)

Sending a contact to a specific circle from my phone would be nice; especially if I could go ahead and set their access limits. Handy if you are out and want to add someone you meet or haven't seen in a while. Gets it done then so you don't forget to add them later.

I noticed my Picasa pics showed up on my site. I had to set the preferences for each one. Only had a few, but what if there would have been more? Also, I don't like having these pics show up automatically. I would rather upload them. Gives me a sense of control and security that only what I want to share is shared.

+Gabriel Espinosa Sorry, I'll try to explain better. When I first made my circles, I typed in names. Then I realized I could choose from my contacts. I think the ones I typed in, showed up as empty silhouettes and the ones I selected from my contacts showed up with names on them. The names made it easier to see who I already added, but the circle is too small. In addition, I had to keep double checking myself to make sure I added everyone I wanted, because the contact didn't dim or anything to let me know they had been added. I thought maybe when a contact is added, it should go below the circles, instead of staying where they are. It just organizes things a bit to keep your mind clear as to what you have done and what you still need to do. Any clearer?

Thanks +Gabriel Vasile I found it very informative and I didn't have any problem viewing the jpg image.

@ Gabriel - why are you suggesting that I include the "Following" circle?

ok great, but how I do I sign up or in with Google Reader. (If this is a dumb question, I don't care!) CONFUSED.....

Sharing... on Facebook. The late comers need to know.

Apparently you don't use /incoming/. You're graph underplays the difference between putting something in someone's inbox, and just making it visible.

I just want to be able to search for images smaller than a certain size on Google. Who knows why we can't yet... Google please fix the image search.
Legga L

14. Wanna have all that, but simpler? => Use facebook.

Thank you Neal. I thought extended circles just went to all my circles + all circles with my name in them..... apparantly not.

However, I do have one question, (if you don't mind that is??) ......
Extended circles: To all my cirlces and all thier circles, right? But it stops there? Just a single ripple, correct?
Public: Shows in every stream in G+ regardless of if they have you in thier circle, correct?

Trouble I have is that I've got seven circles and I flow between limited circles and all circles but didn't really want to go 'public'. Does anyone know if I can add 'All Circles' to the drop box for when I post, like a custom list?? or do I have to actually create an 'All Circles' circle specifically for posting??

Many many thanks
Lann S

wow! looks crowded, but very helpful. TQ

so i will do something, the editor didnt expect in this graphic - i comment and +1 this great share ;)

This Chart is very useful indeed! Thanks!

this is why people call G+ an "antisocial network"

Thanks dude ,I'll start right from this post ;)

+Gabriel Vasile Rules, directions, restrictions, more rules... it is not socializing... it might be programming, but it is not socializing. Many people feel unconfortable on G+, and this might be the answer.. this is algorithm of behavior... and the bad one (or aimed for just one type of person, a technical one).

This makes G+ look extremely hard to use!

Fabulous! :-) A picture / diagram paints a thousand words. This flowchart diagram answers the questions. Well done! :-)

i have a question , i work for a web design company , we normally create webpage and update the page on the Facebook, but how do i do that for G+, how can i create a page and update it, for FB we have a FB developer account using the we create web page & update it.do i need to open a developer account in G+

Concise and simple to understand............Thnx!

Does G+ determine your "whats hot" posts based on what you might like or is it just a list of trending topics?

A very interesting tutorial, I have some people in my circles and maybe others uncircled who might want to see this. Thanks :)

Thank you, This should help a few of my friends.

I tried clicking on this photo but it will not get bigger so I can read everything.

Why won't it click like photos are supposed to do?

You have crammed quite a lot of very useful information onto a single frame and also provided a great bird's eye view of G+ usability. I'm impressed. Thanks.

Maybe.And I don't have access to the router.That is in my roommate's locked room....*sigh*

Cute! Due to its complexity, I first thought it was satire, but I do see the utility in the image, with a bit of amusement as bonus!

That I am! I'm a graphic/web/brand designer. Very much into all things ui/ux.

I stand corrected.Whatever my problem WAS,now I see it fullsize,and it is an excellent flowchart.Thanks +Gabriel Vasile

Except, google reader used to be much better for items 1 & 2.

you have way too much free time

I found this post on tumblr, with a "source" quoted as Google plus. What are you using to cross post G+ into Tumblr? I found the Gumblr+ extension, but I had to disable it as it made G= unusable.

This is an awesome photo, you could possibly also turn this into a Google Docs flow chart so it could be edited and updated without the need of posting a new image or new URL, providing viewers an always up to date version. Just a thought!

Gibts das auch auf Deutsch oder wollen die EnglischSprechende Menschen unter sich bleiben ??
Give me that in German or English speaking people want to keep to themselves?
Überstetzt mit Google

+Gabriel Vasile Thx a lot. i'm following you for a while, and it's not exagerated to say that you definetely ARE the best contirbutor to G+ I've happenend to know (and of course follow).
Yes, even better than the savvy googlers living in mountain view for example ;-)
That said :
1 - It's a pity that accurate comments are sometimes too much negative. While giving his opinion on something you may hgave done better, the way some are giving is just irrespectful according to me. I'm surprised, so much surprised because G+ is a place where collaborative construction is so much shifted, helps, and encouraged ...
2 - not many of these accruate comments give his example done with the potential changes they would prefer
3 - it doesn't seem that anybody here give the requested push up for languages.

So : I will make a 2 -in-one related post, that YOU will receive first, and that I won't re-sahre before YOU reshare it (if you ever do, which I do hope)

In this post I will both
1 - show my suggestions of improvements
2 - give a french version

Meanwhile, I just come back to thank and rethank you for all you've done to help us G+ users, so all you've done to give a push to G+. That's exactly what I'm trying to do as well, but you do it sooooooo better !

can't edit so will in the post comments

Nice image. It is really useful for new people and it shows how easy is to share and express our opinions in G+. Just like the "real life"

To hard to read, it needs more detail when made larger.

Its ok, bit too small, does anyone know where to find a google + mind map?

+Gabriel Vasile TKS 4 all the stuff, U explain on G+ and others:)! U make a real big and notable work in vugarisation, that's worth a lot 4 us plussers:)! Happy New Year to U and all of U, indeed:)!

I like the format generally and will find it helpful as a new user, but I agree with others that a white background with black larger print would be very beneficial and more printer friendly. And yes some of us like it the simpler the better Thanks

About temporarily unchecking a circle, can that be accomplished if one doesn't use Chrome? I just found this link, very useful, thank you! I even figured out how to put items in a Bookmarks circle.

Dear guys, can you please give an advice - how to change privacy settings in the post made. So, i made a post and shared it with a circle "friends", now i want to add the circle "family" to this post - is it possible to do in one post or should i reshare the original post and state correct circles there?

as always man, great stuff! I'm thinking about revisualizing some of your awesome stuff (with your permission of course, giving you full credit)... Did you see my latest poll infographic?

Like the pictorial representation of the decision making flowchart.

Thanks. I'll be able to get more mates to join now :D

This has so many shares and +1s for a very good reason - invaluable :)

just trying to understand this i got high :)))

I'm from the stone age, just trying to get into social networking for grown ups, so this is of great help to me.

Excellent description +Gabriel Vasile !
However, it is not clear to me the purpose of creating a "Bookmarks" circle? Is it just aimed to be a private collection of stuff?

Best!

Thanks. I even didn't know some possibilities, like the 'bookmark'.
