Very interesting article. Don't let the hyper-focused concept of "safety" prevent you from letting boys become men or girls become women...or heaven forbid...you from making something useful. The Boy Scouts of America prohibits boys from using "handcrafted" or "homemade" stoves. I've verified the source. This is ridiculous. Our pansy/sissy society is sissifying our people--don't let it be you, and don't let it be your children. Let's instill some ingenuity and smarts into our children instead. Our risks should be calculated, but calculated risks should not be arbitrarily avoided. I encourage you to read the article below, and think about it. ~Gabriel Staples

I just significantly improved this article, so come check it out! I updated many links in it, incl the broken ones from Radio Shack; also added several new sections, including bonus soldering iron sections (hot air rework station & cordless irons), rosin flux, high-power irons & torches, acid-core solders & acid fluxes, & how to tin a soldering iron tip.

The idea that it takes 10,000 hours to be any good at a new skill is completely misunderstood. Stop counting the hours– they don't matter. Here's what does.

This is so true. I use the "10 tab rule" constantly, in nearly all aspects of my life when I research something online. Sometimes I'm researching 7 topics at once, and I have 60 to 80 tabs open, though I try to keep my Google Chrome tab count < 50~70 so I don't bog down my computer too much. I even upgraded to 16GB of RAM just to support my browsing and research habits, as running out of RAM is the first problem when dealing with many dozens of internet tabs open at once.
As you learn programming, there is one simple trick you can learn in just a few minutes that will be useful for the rest of your future as a programmer.
