The work on next version 1.7.2 of G'MIC is progressing well !
With the help of +David Tschumperlé and +Patrick David, we have just added more than 30 new color presets, in filter Film emulation / Various. We have now a total of 334 HaldCLUTs-based color transformations packaged in G'MIC. What a collection!

See: http://gmic.eu/film_emulation/various_sample_2.shtml#browse for a preview of the newly added color filters.

You can also get latest development version of G'MIC 1.7.2 here : http://gmic.eu/files/prerelease/

Enjoy!

+MyGimpTutorialChannel proposes very cool tutorial videos to achieve interesting effects in GIMP. Some of them even use a few G'MIC filters.
Check it out !

Robin released his Blender-2-G'MIC python script, to allow Blender users applying some of the G'MIC effects in the VSE !
That's excellent news ! Do not hesitate to try and give him feedback.
An overview video is available here : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TSzoEXAV1zs
Kudos, Robin!

New filter Artistic / Brushify available in the G'MIC plug-in for +GIMP (requires at least version 1.7.0 of the plug-in).
This filter tries to repaint an input image, using a single brush given by the user. The algorithm rescales/rotates the brush accordingly to the input image geometry.
There are a lot of controls for this filter, in order to manage the type of brush to use, as well as the precision of the painting.

This is a really cool filter to simulate a wide range of different painting effects. Lot of fun guaranteed !

Looks like another excellent tool for artistic creation.Could not find the filter initially in Artistic group, just updated with in the GMIC  filter UI and number filters available jumped from 462 to 463, and the brushfiy was right there, what a nice way to update for newbies like me.GIMP and Gmic together rocks

A summary of the latest news about the G'MIC development (covers the past 5 months) !

+G'MIC puts out a 1.7.1 version with a long list of great new work! Come see an overview of a few of the different filters and functionality now available!
A new version 1.7.1 “Spring 2016” of G’MIC (GREYC’s Magic for Image Computing), the open-source framework for image processing, has been released recently (26 April 2016). This is a great opportunity to summarize some of the ...

The work on the next version 1.7.2 of G'MIC has started, with a lot of improvements in the core code already (mainly optimizations and code simplifications). It seems to be already stable enough for us to propose pre-release packages on the G'MIC web site. So, we are looking for beta testers who could report strange behaviors or dysfunctions. Feedback appreciated!

* Get the 1.7.2 pre-release files at : http://gmic.eu/files/prerelease/
* See the (constantly evolving) changelog at : https://discuss.pixls.us/t/on-the-road-to-1-7-2

Both are important: a project must get new features to attract users and to be interesting enough. A second step is having some users becoming contributors (code, design, documentation,...). And I admit we are still waiting for contributors for the documentation.
This cannot be a one-man task.

Nice use of the inpainting filter indeed !

Magic performed using the GIMP G'MIC Inpaint filter to remove sensor dust.
It may take a while to run, but it's so much quicker than cloning/healing each bit of dust manually.

Just finished my shell script that goes through a directory of images, and deletes dust from any images that have an f-stop of 9 or higher.  Lower f-stops don't show sensor dust as much, so I don't process them with gmic inpaint patchmatch.

New release 1.7.1 of the G'MIC image processing framework, available today !
This is a minor release somehow: It has several improvements and new filters, but most new features have been already backported for the users of the previous major version (1.7.0), thanks to the nice filter update mechanism.
The Changelog below shows the amount of work that has been done since then. I hope you'll keep enjoying G'MIC as much as we enjoyed working on it (for almost the last 8 years!).

We managed to compress all the color mapping data used in the various Film emulation filters in the +GIMP plug-in, with a quite smart and home-made compression algorithm. So, all the 303 color profiles we provide in the plug-in represent now only 621KB of data (instead of 82MB before!!), which means we will be able to include all of them in the precompiled G'MIC packages, so that people can use them offline without worrying anymore. Isn't that nice ?
