Today, +David Tschumperlé has implemented a new interactive filter for quickly creating color masks from images. It's already available in the +GIMP plug-in, for people working with the 2.0.0_pre development version of G'MIC (available there for testing : http://gmic.eu/files/prerelease/).

Basically, the filter opens an interactive window where you have to move your mouse over the colors you want keep (with left mouse button clicked), and then do the same for the colors you want to reject (right mouse button). The filter then tries to guess what colors to keep for the whole image, based on a very simple learning algorithm.

The video below shows how this filter can be used to quickly change the (ugly :) ) color of a car ! There's probably a lot of use cases, so give it a try !

Update: I've just published an update for this particular filter, taking into account spatial constraints too. See new video that shows how it works now : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K2nkbkqYquc

Did you know G'MIC has also a quite powerful CLI interface (command line) ? I've played with it today and ended up with this quite nice and relaxing animation ! (incomprehensible script code included :D). Best viewed in fullscreen, despite the low quality of the conversion when uploaded to Youtube.

+David Revoy is testing one of our latest filter to auto-colorize lineart. Really cool ! It's already available in the G'MIC plug-in for +GIMP . So, why not give a try by yourself too ? :p

Hi! I just posted a new article on my blog: "Smart-Coloring, preview of a new GMIC filter" (Link: http://www.davidrevoy.com/article324/smart-coloring-preview-of-a-new-gmic-filter).It's a geeky article about a (work-in-progress) filter created by David Tschumperlé, Sébastien Fourey and me. I have good hope to use this tool on future episodes to improve my productivity. #gimp #gmic #digitalpainting #webcomics

Not in G'Mic for Krita, please?

Answer: For using the filter directly in Krita, we need to wait; last version of Krita 3.1.1 embed only GMIC version 1.7.0. Thks!

Very interesting and detailed post from +Indigo Janson , about the G'MIC brushify filter.

Still loving the +G'MIC Brushify filter in +GIMP ! Stop by my blog for a step-by-step example of how I used it to apply a painted effect to one of my 3D renders: http://indigojanson.com/12393/brushify-filter-free-painted-effect/

The upcoming version 1.7.9 of the G'MIC plug-in for +GIMP will allow the user to decide whether the preview window is located on the left or on the right of the dialog window. The "Preview on right" layout is illustrated on the image below. The dialog parameters (e.g. Preview size) will be also persistent when GIMP is closed and restarted.

New filter Black & White / Colorize lineart [smart paint] available in the G'MIC plug-in for +GIMP !

This is another helper for the colorization of linearts, this time with a relatively smart algorithm that analyzes the overall geometry of the strokes, in order to automatically close holes in contours and improve the region filling process. This filter proposes two different modes for colorization: 1. Fill input lineart with random colors, or 2. Fill using a user-defined color guide (given by color spots located on a top transparent layer).

We really hope you'll find it useful. Any feedback appreciated !

Perfect, the only thing I was looking for was something like "Extrapolate colours as one layer per single colour"
