Major MacDonald Completes Britain’s Toughest Trail!

By SSI Debbie Callaghan, Media Ops Team, GMACF

A year ago Major Rob MacDonald, OC 5 (Anzio) Company, GMACF decided that he would like to undertake a challenge – he’s always been a keen hill walker, and the lumpier, the better. It was whilst thinking about the challenge that he was also inspired to raise money for charity, and his chosen charities were the ABF (The Soldiers’ Charity), Barnardo’s and the NSPCC. Major MacDonald said “I knew that by raising money for these worthy charities it would keep me motivated throughout my walk”. Little did he know how much he would need that inspiration.

Ultimately, he completed the Cape Wrath Trail in just under three weeks. When asked would he do the Trail again; “Carrying 21 Kg for 20 days through the Scottish Mountains, along tracks, half-tracks and no tracks at all was very hard and very long. Would I do it again? No way!”. He then added that he was glad he had completed it and it would be worth it once all the money raised was collected and passed over to the charities concerned.

A great inspiration to us all.

GMACF - Manchester's premier youth training organisation
Introduction

For action and adventure, fun and friendship, the Army Cadet Force is hard to beat. With around 45,000 cadets (aged 12-18) and 8,500 adult volunteers in 1,700 locations in every corner of the United Kingdom. We welcome boys and girls from the age of 12, of all abilities and backgrounds, and through a broad range of exciting, challenging, educational and adventurous activities, help them develop physically, mentally and socially. Some of our activities have a military theme; others have more of a community focus. Combining military and community activities in this way enables us to offer our 45,000 young people a unique blend of personal development opportunities, all designed to promote fun and friendship while also helping them prepare for success in their chosen path in life, whatever that might turn out to be.
