Here's an account of my last tramp of the summer. Might have got it out of my system for a while.
Overall it's been one wet summer. And now I'm back in Nelson it's started raining here after only 10mm in the last two months. No complaints, I'm not in my tent.

Yay! I finished those three recent route guides. Each of them has a decent slide show at the bottom of the page to give you a visual picture of what you are in for. The top of the Severn River is particularly dramatic.

Just finished the writeup on the first of three tracks from this summer. I have to get all the images and huts sorted before publishing these route guides, so that's why it all takes time. Will publish the other two in the next few days. Once I sort out the slide shows.

Here's what happened on my travels across Marlborough. Mostly easy walking, lots of farm tracks across Molesworth.

This was my route from Kaikoura to the Boyle Village near the Lewis Pass. Turns out it is 212 km. No wonder I'm having a week or two off from walking before I go back for the Lewis to Arthurs Pass section.

I have managed to finish writing up my first tramping trip of the summer, the wet experience of the West Coast. This link leads to the Readers Digest version of the blog.

I ended up getting washed out of Westland. My start up the Hokitika/Whitcombe River was wet and it rained most days. Day 2 saw my sleeping bag getting a dunking.
I'm now heading over to Kaikoura to start when I had originally planned back in September, ie, before a certain earthquake stopped access.

My shortest trip for a long while. Just up and down to Sylvester Hut, followed by another quick up and down to Balloon Hut.

It's taken me a long time to get to these popular huts, but it sure blew a few cobwebs out of my hair.

Last weekend I went on an impromptu trip up to a couple of huts I had never visited up the Cobb Valley. It's was about time I did some training for my big west to east trip in a month or so.

Not great weather, it was extremely windy with low cloud, didn't quite have the feeling of summer yet. No one else around.
