Friends Lake Inn used to be a great B&B. It changed hands back in June '14 and you can feel the difference. The owners don't have the experience to run a B&B. We've been to FLI before and can compare the experiences. Unfortunately, we will not be returning. The owners treated us with disdain. We had the Field Stone room for the weekend. The hot water stopped working in the shower and then the heat went too. The dinning experience, both breakfast and dinner, have gone down in quality. Their front desk staff is rude too. If you've been there prior to June '14 be prepared for a completely different experience.

The biggest complaint is the fact that FLI is not connected to the lake in any way. Everything about the establishment is great but it could be anywhere The grounds are nothing to speak of.

we have been there many times. we love the inn and the owners John andTrudy. we have made many friends who are regulars at the inn. the wine list is first class and the food is excellent. the wine dinners are great as well. usually 5 courses and wines to match. our little home away from home.

Think twice before booking your special event at Friends Lake Inn. I worked with Nikki from August 2011 to plan a SURPRISE 70th Birthday Party for my husband. The big day arrives and all is in place....we arrive at the front desk and I let the waiter know we are there....he looks at the ledger and says "you are with the party of 9". Horrified I shoot him a glare and say "no we are a party of two". He goes back to check a second time and I think he will rectify this (there mush be some communication between the pros here right?) He comes in again with - "no, I have you as a party of 9 in the parlor" SURPRISE ruined. I asked to speak with the manager Paul....he asks "what can I do?" I suggested a round of drinks for myself and my husband. He says "i'm sorry I can't do that" Then I suggest that they improve their communication amongst themselves so that future surprises planned for six months aren't ruined. He tells me "if I ran the place there is A LOT that would be different" FANTASTIC

I'm sorry your surprise was ruined. It should not have happened. I recently purchased the Inn and will use your issue as training for the staff, to ensure that it doesn't happen again.

We stayed at Friends Lake Inn on a road trip through upstate New York. The entire staff were extremely friendly and helpful, and the food was amazing! We opted to eat in the taproom for the more casual atmosphere, but could order off both menus. Their fine dining room would be great for a romantic dinner or special occasion. We chose one of their more traditional B&B rooms with the balcony which was lovely. Lot’s do on the property! We went hiking on the trails that start at the back of the property, and also used their free kayaks to explore the lake. There is also a nice pool, but we never made it in. I would definitely recommend this if you hotel if you are looking for a getaway or just passing through!

I have grown up, traveled, and stayed at bed & breakfasts all throughout the northeast, but Friends Lake Inn takes the cake. Literally, the food is some of the best I have ever had. We stayed in room 11, which has your own romantic, open balcony with a small table and two chairs to watch the stars while sipping on a glass of your favorite wine. The Inn has its own wine-cellar and MASSIVE list of wines to choose from. It was far to daunting for us, so the Sommelier, Paul, choose a bottle for us. After a few glasses of wine we cozied up in room’s King sized bed, which was just what we were looking for after the late-night drive to the Inn. In the morning, there is a pastry, fruit, and juice bar waiting for you in the dining hall, which included cinnamon rolls, raspberry danish’s and my personal favorite, freshly smoked salmon to top your cream cheese and bagel. Best Ever! And after all that, you can order off their full, hot breakfast menu of which we ordered French toast, eggs, duck-Hash, and link pork sausage. Oh, and to add insult to stomach-injury, the chef sends out hot, three-cheese rolls while you wait for your hot breakfast. The friendly staff likes to joke about the well-known fact that the satiated visitors have to be rolled out of the breakfast room. After a morning of kayaking on the private lake, the Inn has their own 1 and 2 person kayaks or canoes, we drove the 20 mins to Lake George for a walk around town and lunch. Driving anywhere around the area is exactly what you would expect from the north east, lush greenery and spectacular mountain, lake views. I would stay here again any weekend, any day …………or everyday, if possible.

We stumbled upon the negative ratings here and we were surprised. We went anyways and found it to be as it is every time we go. We usually eat in the wine bar to save a few bucks and still enjoy the very high quality they offer. Staff was friendly and sharp. Food was excellent and it's hard to find a beverage selection like that in this region. It's fine dining with a bit of an Adirondack twist. My lovely wife treated me to the martini special, roasted tomato and Parmesan bisque, veal picatta, garlic mashed potatoes, banana cake, espresso and a glass of Madeira. All was top notch and we will be back.

The Friends Lake Inn is way out in the middle of nowhere; but we just visited for our anniversary and the service was excellent and our meal was excellent. Sure, it cost us a pretty penny; but you get what you pay for. The wine list is so huge and intimidating, but our waiter recommended a great wine that we loved. The menu was very unusual and I loved every bit of it!
