We have a workaround to enable paid apps that support Android Wear on the Play Store. In this blog post, we describe the necessary steps to get this working, and information about the problem. If your app is free then no steps are necessary and they will continue to work. We're working to make this easier for you in the future, and we apologize for the inconvenience.

The only way I can get myself to learn some new programming tricks is by actually building something. So I wrote my own news aggregator and filter and hacked up a basic frontend for it.

Project Tango Prepping for Launch Into Space

Since the summer of 2013, the Project Tango team has been working closely with a team at the NASA Ames Research Center.  The goal: to integrate a Project Tango prototype onto a robotic platform, called SPHERES, that flies inside the International Space Station. The SPHERES program aims to develop zero-gravity autonomous platforms that could act as robotic assistants for astronauts or perform maintenance activities independently on station.  The 3D-tracking and mapping capabilities of Project Tango would allow SPHERES to reconstruct a 3D-map of the space station and, for the first time in history, enable autonomous navigation of a floating robotic platform 230 miles above the surface of the earth.

Project Tango and SPHERES are scheduled to be launched into orbit this summer. The future is awesome.

Every now and then, I go to FriendFeed to check if it's still up and running. And every time I do that, I'm (happily) surprised there are still some people active on there.

It’s hard to make last-minute hotel and restaurant reservations in your price range, in the right neighborhood and with the right flair. But now, you can just ask a quick question on your phone—tap the mic on your Android and say “show me some restaurants in downtown Austin.” You’ll see your options and you can swipe to see more, or tap the button to “see all.” If you need a way to make sense of the many options, tap the new filter tool to help you narrow it down by price, ratings, cuisine, and even whether it’s open now. (This works only in the U.S. for now, but stay tuned!) Found the one? Just say “OK Google, call 219 West” and you’re good to go.
