The high performing and awesome ultra runner +Zach Bitter explains some of his VO2 MAX and fat vs carb burning #s in his latest blog post.  The guy still burns 98% fat while running at 75% of his VO2 MAX...incredible.  I am hoping in the comments he will share his heart rate #s.

The study he was part of was aimed at discovering the role diet plays in how our bodies metabolize fat vs. carbohydrate during exercise.

Google Now #fail. I have not eaten at these places in years. I am still trying to lose those extra lbs from the old times of late night eating.

Eat at the places that you have to run to as a reminder of the cost of eating there in the first place

The Ultra Runner podcast include a link to my latest blog post.  This is a good website for runners, but it is also a great podcast that I subscribe to so I can learn from other runners.

Thanks for sharing the news +Peg Fitzpatrick.  Now I just wish I had 4.4 so I can use this feature.  Maybe this is the universe telling me I need a new phone...
Lens Blur in the new Google Camera app
Posted by Carlos Hernández, Software Engineer

One of the biggest advantages of SLR cameras ( over camera phones is the ability to achieve shallow depth of field effects (also known as bokeh,, which makes the object of interest "pop" by bringing the foreground into focus and de-emphasizing the background.

Achieving this optical effect has traditionally required a big lens and aperture, and therefore hasn’t been possible using the camera on your mobile phone or tablet. That all changes with Lens Blur, a new mode in the Google Camera app (

Lens Blur  replaces the need for a large optical system with computer vision algorithms and optimization techniques that are run entirely on the mobile device, simulating a larger lens and aperture in order to creating a 3D model of the world.

To learn more about the algorithms and optimization that makes Lens Blur  possible, head over to the Google Research Blog, linked below. We hope you have fun with your bokeh experiments!

We love this place when we want to go out to eat and we want some 'healthy' food. If you stick to the salad bar, you can eat a LOT of good food and for the most part it is healthy. I do have the soup or chili once in a while and those tastes pretty good too. You always have the option of just getting a "water cup" to receive free water. The dessert options are below average but I typically do not eat sugary items so I do not care about that part. Overall, the staff is pretty friendly and they clean your tables very quickly.

The food here is "good" but not great. I really wish they would bring the 'good' meat around to the tables more often. I wish their non-steak options at their salad bar was better. Just seems they are a bit short is various places from being a 5 star restaurant. Regardless we do go about once a year and typically the staff is friendly and helpful. The restaurant is decorated nice and is very clean.

My wife and I try to go out to a "nice" restaurant a few times a year and this is one of the places that is close by that we tend to return to. The service is good , the food is great. You do need to make reservations and when you do, you typically will get sitted within 10 minutes of that time. Their appetizers, main courses and desserts are wonderful. No complainsts, full of good times so they get 5 stars for me.

We have had a much better experience at this location vs the Hoffman Estates one. The bartenders and servers respond to you very quickly and nicely. The food menu has a lot of different options to choose from and the food is great. The popcorn they give you when you get sitted is good but too salty. We love to go here once in a while to watch the UFC fights.

This by far our family's favorite burger place. The fries are delicious and the burgers, hot dog and various sandwiches are always served with consistent and great quality. My son still says this is his favorite place and we go there everytime we visit Legoland or the Woodfield area. The employees are extremely friendly and the food is served fast. I really wish they would bring this restaurant out to the Carpentersville/Algonquin area.

We have annual passes to this place. We always buy them via a Groupon deal or something. For that price, it is worth it. We have a 8 year old who still loves the place because he is a big Lego fan. Is it worth it if you pay the full price? No way. They do not have a lot to offer and I feel sorry for the people that travel out of town just for this place. I would not plan a trip around Legoland Discovery Center. However, since we live 25 minutes away, it is worth it to visit a few times a year. I still give it 4 stars because my son enjoys it there. However, they do need to keep improving and adding on to keep people returning to Legoland.

Its a sports bar, I really do not have a lot of expectations. Have TVs for sporting events, serve decent food, refill our drinks when needed. Well we have sat at the bar about 3 times and we have sat with an empty beer bottle for over 20 minutes each of those times. We had only 1 beer so it is not like we should have been cut off or anything. We were quietly watching the UFC fights, causing no problems. The bartender was just ignoring us for no appearant reason.
