Barn Quilts brighten the countryside in Wisconsin #fvbb
As you drive around the countryside near Sparta, WI, you will notice colorful “quilt swatches” on the side of old (and new) barns. The Barn Quilt craze has hit this corner of the country! The first barn quilt was painted in Adams County, Ohio. In 2001, Donna Sue Groves paid tribute to her mother,

I traveled to Sparta to celebrate my 55th birthday with my 95 year-old mother (not many people actually have that privilege)! It was the perfect choice! Beautiful, serene surroundings, fabulous hostess, amazing food...the relaxation level was off the chart! I don't unplug often, but I will now! The bed was so comfortable--and the amenities over the top (wine, bathrobes, slippers, coffee, snacks, beverages...) I can't wait to return!

Jennifer was so welcoming, and her cooking was fantastic! What a beautiful home, and our room was perfect. Couldn't have asked for a more cozy, relaxing way to spend New Year's Eve. The B&B is located on a nice corner in Sparta, and walking distance to good Italian food, and even a band (though we didn't stay for that). We very much look forward to staying here again! Thank you, Jennifer and Steve!

Our stay at the Franklin Victorian B & B was truly wonderful! My husband and I just wanted a weekend getaway to somewhere new and we found out gem. The Franklin Suite was comfortable and large with the bathroom being a whole seperate big room attached to our room. There were snacks and things to drink available all the time and Jennifer's cooking for breakfast was amazing! It was such a treat. We highly recommend staying here.

We live about an hour and 15 minutes away from Sparta and will definitely make the Franklin Victorian a repeat stay. This was without a doubt the most beautifully-equipped room we have stayed in, and the breakfast was not only excellent but actually more than I could finish. The master bedroom's gas fireplace is a lovely addition, as is the full-body shower spray in the master bath. I hope we can return soon!

This lovely B&B is a stone's throw from the center of town (Sparta--biking capital of the Americas), 30 minutes from the heart of cranberry growing country (we walked into a bog with thigh-high waders!), and less than an hour from the Minnesota border across the Mississippi River. My husband and I felt enveloped by charm and comfort at Jennifer and Steve's tranquil home the moment we stepped through the front door. Had we been without specific plans for each day, we could easily have stayed inside this Victorian cocoon. At every turn there was thoughtfulness: plump sofa cushions, well-supporting sofas, ottomans, and dining room chairs, mood lighting, just-right mattress and soft sheets for both of us with differing preferences, plush bath robes, carefully considered and placed room accents (figurines, romantic etched, printed, and stitched phrases, local crafts, well-turned antique furnishings, bath toiletries artfully arranged in themed baskets), coffee, tea, and snack selections (including mouth-watering homemade chocolate chip cookies!) and mini-fridge tucked just outside the bedroom doors, elegantly set breakfast table complete with personalized seat assignments, candles, seasonal fruits, and flowers, garden art pieces tastefully set amidst colorful blooms--I could go on and on. Breakfasts were creative and scrumptious. So helpful was the menu "library" from local (even a bit further out) restaurants to make dining plans. Our hosts graciously lent us Miamians (FL not OH) gloves and other accessories for our biking adventure on a cool WI morn. How Jennifer and Steve maintain such cleanliness and excellent premises condition I do not know but there was not one iota of evidence that anyone had every stayed in our room before we arrived. This was a truly memorable sojourn for us.

This was the second B&B I've stayed at, and I'm hooked. Franklin Victorian Inn set the bar high. Gracious hosts, amazing breakfasts, and ALL of the little extras. I can't think of one thing missing, but I could write about MANY things that made it an unforgettable, enjoyable experience. Thank you Jennifer and Steve! We'll be back to ride the trails!

I have had the pleasure of staying at the Franklin Victorian Bed and Breakfast several times when my travels took me to the LaCrosse/Sparta area. Jennifer Dunn, Innkeeper, and her husband, Steve, offer a warm welcome which sets the tone for a very pleasant visit. The rooms are very attractive, comfortable and impeccably clean. The wonderful breakfast prepares their guests for whatever adventures the day holds, and the wine and cheese offered in the afternoon is a very nice addition. I really cannot say enough about this bed and breakfast. It is a First Rate experience!
