So lets have a look at a few of examples of the deeds of the #ALLNP .
Abuse of refugees including sexual abuse of women and children in detention centres: Manus Regional Processing Centre and Nauru Detention Centre were both established under a Howard government, then maintained by the Rudd, Gillard, Rudd government. The current Abbott government has made things worse with their stop the boats policy (which hasn't stopped the boats, it's just turning boats back so refugees can go die elsewhere) and Bill Shorten announces that he'll continue a boat turn-back policy. Both Liberal and Labor insist on an extreme level of secrecy about the whole mess. When The Greens proposed a bill for the mandatory reporting of child sexual abuse in detention centres, the bill was voted down in a show of unity by the #ALLNP .
Renewable Energy & the RET: The #ALLNP have agreed to slash our Renewable Energy Target. It didn't need reducing. In fact it could've taken an increase. Climate change is real, if one is to believe 98% of all climate scientists in the world and The Pope. Australia catches an awful lot of sunlight and has some great windswept plains. We would be capable of setting an example to the world of what clean energy on a vast scale could look like. Instead the COALition and the non-opposition slash our RET causing the loss of thousands of jobs in the renewable energy sector and turning away future investors. They are making us look like jokes on the world stage at a time when climate change is being addressed by the rest of the planet.
Corruption in Parliament: It’s not just entitlements. Special law changes for party donors. Jobs for the boys. Backroom deals. The Greens proposed an Independent Commission Against Corruption. It was defeated by the #ALLNP . Hard to expect those in power to allow themselves to be investigated.
Internet Censorship: The anti-piracy, website blocking laws that were recently passed are nothing but a re-branding of Labor’s Internet blacklist. In either case, the #ALLNP have decided that they will decide what you can and can’t access online.
Metadata Retention: The idea that spying on every citizen in Australia is going to protect us from terrorism is laughable. The idea that spying on every citizen in Australia is not okay for any reason. Passed by the #ALLNP , this legislation forces your ISP to keep track of all your internet data and your phone company to keep track of all your cell phone data and store it in such a way that the last two years of your activity can be searchable by the AFP and ASIO. This from a government who can’t even secure it’s own emails. One should note that this law was expanded almost immediately to include the Australian Border Force access to your personal data too.
Which brings us to the Australian Border Force: The ABF consolidates the immigration and border protection departments and turns them into a force. Like a military force. A military welcoming force for immigrants and refugees. Full support of the #ALLNP can be found in the establishment of the ABF.
I could go on about the collaborations of the #ALLNP in Federal Parliament, but it can be seen at state level too. The previous State Government in Queensland led by Campbell Newman and his LNP approved a huge bauxite mine on native title land in Aurukun on the west coast of Cape York Peninsula. The people who live in Aurukun have appealed to the new Labor government who have basically said “Well, yeah, sure the deal sounds dodgy, but we’re going to keep it anyway.”
After Queensland voted out the LNP and installed Palaszczuk and Labor to lead the state on a huge “Save the Reef” campaign, after the people of Queensland convinced the Commonwealth Bank not to support the Abbot Point coal terminal project, Palaszczuk’s government has decided to fund the project with taxpayers dollars and approve dumping of dredge waste on The Great Barrier Reef.
There are more. Many more.
Hopefully some of you will post examples with the #ALLNP hashtag and help to point out the obvious to all Australians. That a vote for Labor is no different than a vote for The Liberals or The Nationals. That if you’re sick of their crap, look for an alternative. That before you decide your vote, you should examine not only the policy of the party you’re voting for, but also the track record of the representatives of the party. Their ability to represent their electorate and the people of Australia. Their ability to keep their word. Their ability to take expert and scientific advice. Their ability to act with conviction and compassion. Their ability to hold to the true spirit of what it means to be an Australian.
