My Dad
My Dad, Frank J. Hamelly, passed away 2 months ago today, on March 28, 2016.  This post is a tribute to my Dad because without his passing along his love of building things, working on cars, generally tinkering around the house, and his strong work ethic, i...

New Elevator Hinges
Spent a couple hours last night working on new hinges on the left half of the elevator.  Interestingly, even though the hinges are the same, the gap between the elevator and horizontal stabilizer is uneven.  Notice the gap is wider near the vertical stabili...

New Tail Wheel Spring
Picked up my Corvette C5 leaf spring tonight and promptly brought it home and went to work.  Cut the spring in half, sanded down the small end of it so it would fit into the tail wheel bracket and voila - easy breezy.  Tomorrow I'll do some more work on it ...

More Elevator and Rudder Work
Well, at this rate (3 1/2 months between work sessions), I'll finish Katie when I'm 97.  Sheila's okay with that as she doesn't want me to fly this thing anyhow :)   This weekend, I did some more work on the elevator and rudder hinges.  I decided to complet...

Elevator & Rudder Hinge Design
I don't really like the hinge design in the KR plans, so I'm going to replace the aluminum channel hinges (and no bushings) with Rod End Bearings to make for smoother control movement and a more substantial hinge point. This is my next step in 774KT's evolu...

Some things are just better to buy than build
This weekend was my first foray into laying up fiberglass cloth and epoxy.  Have to admit it was fun but I also have to admit that it's not always best to re-invent the wheel.  I've thought all along that I would build my own tail wheel spring, so I started...

Race City Heating & Air responded very quickly. Nick Keziah replaced the capacitor on my air unit and had me running in no time. He also shared lots of tips regarding how to extend the life of these 16 y/o units. He really is about educated customers. Thanks Nick and Race City!
