listening to Orff's Carmina Burana while I program.  It's not distracting because I don't understand Italian.

Artificial intelligence is getting smarter by leaps and bounds — within this century, research suggests, a computer AI could be as "smart" as a human being. And then, says Nick Bostrom, it will overtake us: "Machine intelligence is the last invention that humanity will ever need to make." A philosopher and technologist, Bostrom asks us to think hard about the world we're building right now, driven by thinking machines. Will our smart machines hel...

so friggin annoying. after decades of chat applications on the internet, still no decent way to see people's presence and status in google hangouts.  And now they are pushing the new hangouts in gmail on people with crap like this.  I'm getting so tired of google making decisions on software that don't put the user first.  Maybe they really are past their prime.

perhaps George Lucas' legacy could be even more impressive with works like these: http://news.yahoo.com/george-lucas-strikes-back-affordable-225100008.html
George Lucas plans to build an affordable-housing complex in the same neighborhood that denied his film studio there almost three years ago.

one of the more profound smarter every day videos... watch... learn... reflect.

I almost broke my brain with a backwards bicycle for the sake of Science. I would appreciate it if you would share this video so people become aware of their own cognitive biases.

very good video.  worth watching to help move the conversation of security for the poor forward.

http://www.ted.com/talks/gary_haugen_the_hidden_reason_for_poverty_the_world_needs_to_address_now
Collective compassion has meant an overall decrease in global poverty since the 1980s, says civil rights lawyer Gary Haugen. Yet for all the world's aid money, there's a pervasive hidden problem keeping poverty alive. Haugen reveals the dark underlying cause we must recognize and act on now.

This is the first review, so I'm guessing about 5 fake reviews are sure to follow. I was interested in buying a lot here. I called the company and set up an appointment for a tour at 11:00 on a Sunday morning. Me and my son drove out there (about an hour and a half) and upon arriving, we are told we can't have a tour because my wife isn't there! I explain that when I set up the appt, I was told I couldn't get some gift they were giving away if my wife wasn't there, but after I told them I wasn't interested in a gift, I was given an appointment for 11:00. The lady there said that was a mistake and that they don't give tours when a spouse isn't present because they don't want to waste their time on people who aren't ready to make a same day purchase decision! Perplexed, I told her we drove a long way and asked if I could at least have a price sheet for the lots - she said no. I'm trying to look for the positive side of this. I guess I'm glad I got a glimpse of the real character of this company BEFORE we purchased a lot. Also, on the drive home, I was able to use this as a lesson to my son on how not to treat customers.

They don't have fries because that's their thing. Still no fries! This place does one thing good... burgers. Not fries... not salads... not deli... not dessert. Just... burgers. Go there for a great burger and some Lafayette tradition.

Definitely the place to stop if you are in Scott and need to eat some breakfast or just relax with a coffee. Great decor as an old train station. The kids may even hear the real train come by! Try the beignets. Also, shake hands with the owners - they are great people!

a little expensive, but for an anniversary or other special occasion, you can't really beat the service and quality at Perry's. Always great service. Also, pork-chop Wednesdays are pretty awesome for a business lunch. Kudos to the mgmt at this place for keeping it a top-notch service restaurant.
