22nd April: Happy 103rd birthday to Italian scientist Rita Levi-Montalcini. Levi-Montalcini along with Stanley Cohen, was awarded the Nobel Prize in Medicine in 1986 for their work on nerve growth factor. Nerve growth factor is important because it has been shown to reduce neural degeneration and can potentially be used to treat many diseases of the nervous system (like Multiple Sclerosis).
