So on a whim I decided to try out arch linux since I had just bought a new hard drive to replace the current one I have running my linux distro. It was having some I/O issues and you know something is wrong when you have to wait over 1 minute for the machine to wake up. Bought a cavalier black from WD. I'm glad I did, my system is amazingly fast. The difference is startling.
When I switched to Arch Linux though and to GNOME 3.8 the machine was so responsible as was the desktop. The package manager was fast and it seems the fonts seemed much better. Fedora seemed to have a lot of bloat specifically seeing a lot of random segfaults related to the kernel and other software packages. It seems I'm constantly acknowleging some kind of problem that a bug report had to be sent. Swiching to Arch really underscored how bad a release F18 really was.
I have switched to Arch on my laptop as well. Overall the experience has been a lot better than Fedora unfortunately, and I get a pure GNOME 3 experience as well. Questions on #archlinux
on IRC was readily answered.. hell, I was getting a response even before I could finish typing out the problem. Jeez. Talking about impatience.
