Some of us are called to change the world. Others, to save it.
On June 6, 1944, seven decades before this picture was taken from the International Space Station, thousands of American, British and Canadian troops crossed the swells of the English Channel in 5,300 ships and 11,000 planes, landing on the beaches of Normandy, France. On #DDay ‬, only the full moon lit the path from England to France, and liberation. #OrbitalPerspective  Image credit: NASA

"Looking outward to the blackness of space, sprinkled with the glory of a universe of lights, I saw majesty - but no welcome. Below was a welcoming planet. There, contained in the thin, moving, incredibly fragile shell of the biosphere is everything that is dear to you, all the human drama and comedy. That's where life is; that's were all the good stuff is." - Loren Acton, payload specialist, STS-51F/Spacelab-2 Challenger #OrbitalPerspective

Good morning Earthlings. That's not Jupiter, but this pic did get our imaginations going this morning! Our home planet, the sun and a bit of lens distortion taken by a human living and working onboard the International Space Station 2 May 2015. #OrbitalPerspective

"I realized that that blue line, that really thin royal blue line, was Earth’s atmosphere, and that was all there was of it. And it’s so clear from that perspective how fragile our existence is." - Sally Ride, born 26 May 1951. We salute you Dr. Ride!

Connecting Space and Earth. Learn. Act. Make A Difference.
Introduction

Fragile Oasis is the grassroots initiative that connects the orbital perspective of astronauts and cosmonauts who live and work together in space with people who want to make a difference on Earth.

These are our goals:
  • Use the unique orbital perspective to inspire people to improve life on our planet
  • Get the word out that the International Space Station is an incredible global asset
  • Highlight the advances in science and technology that are improving life on Earth
  • Inspire students to academic excellence
  • Give people the opportunity to experience living and working in space through the experiences of crewmembers living and working onboard the International Space Station, not just as spectators but as fellow crewmembers traveling the universe together on the spaceship we call Earth.
