It’s World Food Day! This is a time to promote worldwide awareness and action for those who suffer from hunger and for the need to ensure food security and nutritious diets for all. Weighing up to 7,000 pounds and spending about half of the daylight hours feeding, southern white rhinos are the biggest eaters at Fossil Rim. We do our best to keep them from being hungry, but it’s a tall task for sure. #ZeroHunger

It’s World Egg Day! Here we have a couple of ladies getting a better look at a massive ostrich egg, our Animal Care staffer Becca McLachlan checking on some emu eggs, and an Attwater’s prairie chicken egg being checked for fertility via candling. #HowEggsiting http://ow.ly/i/zy6Lo http://ow.ly/i/zy6LI

It’s Veterinary Nurse Day! For us, this is a time to recognize our Licensed Veterinary Technician Allyssa Roberts! A graduate of Cedar Valley College in 2011 with an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Veterinary Technology, Allyssa recently transitioned from intern to staff member. She has seven years of experience, mainly in small animal medicine. “She got the wildlife bug and completed a Bachelor’s Degree in Wildlife and Conservation Science in 2017 before beginning her internship here in July,” said Dr. Holly Haefele. “Both (Dr.) Julie (Swenson) and I are excited to have Allyssa on our team and look forward to working together for a long time.” #AppreciatingAllyssa
