Fort Worth Country Day’s spring 2019 musical will be Chicago The High School Edition. Read below for information from Theatre Director Melodee Halbach:

Six years ago, the Upper School students saw Chicago featured in the ISAS Arts Festival Showcase venue. This began six years of students begging me to choose the musical for FWCD!

We get many of our ideas for the musical selection from the ISAS Arts Festival; thus my journey to procure the rights for the show. And for five years, the answer has been no. But this year, the answer was YES! Please note that the official title is Chicago The High School Edition. It has been edited, but still addresses some issues that are not intended for young audiences. The show was chosen for the Upper School students to satisfy a passion that many of them have had for years.

The perfect storm of selection became complete when our dear Eric Tysinger (former Scott Theater Manager) told me he is friends with one of the Broadway show's dance captains, Tonya Wathen. We also just learned that the Fine Arts Department received an anonymous grant for our choreographer, Natalie Bracken ‘05, to spend a week in New York City with Ms. Wathen learning choreography in very close style to the original show. While there, she will also spend time with some of the Chicago Broadway cast.

We are beyond excited for this adventure for Natalie, as well as the opportunity for her to share her gifts with the students cast in the show (auditions TBD).

Stay tuned for more information…

Best Private School in Fort Worth

That’s Fort Worth Country Day, right? We think so! And thanks to our parents, students, alumni, faculty and staff, we received the Best Private School Fort Worthy Award honor in 2017 – the inaugural year of the contest. Now it’s time to retain that “crown,” so we need your votes again.

Nominations for categories begin on April 22 and are open through May 7 at fortworthy2018.com. You will vote for us under the category of Places and the subcategory of Best Private School. We need to receive a lot of votes in order to be put on the final ballot for voting on May 20-June 11, so please cast your vote!
