General Sherman has returned!

Earlier today, Forge had the good fortune to help the N.C. Civil War History Center (client) commemorate the 150th anniversary of Sherman's occupation of Raleigh, North Carolina during the Civil War (or the War of Northern Aggression, depending on your point of view). The great Ira David Wood (best known as Ebenezer Scrooge every holiday season) dressed as Gen. Sherman and award-winning author Charles Frazier ("Cold Mountain") joined with other dignitaries to launch the Center's "100 by 100" initiative. This program hopes to gather 100 stories from each of the state's 100 counties (10,000 stories) that illustrate how the War and Reconstruction affected the lives of North Carolina residents.

For a good chuckle (Wood is terrific!) and more information on the Center and this unique effort, please follow the link below. And if your family has a story to share from that period, please be sure to submit it to the Center (the link's in the story).

On April 13, 1865, Raleigh peacefully surrendered to Union forces, sparing the city the destruction that took place in some other Confederate capital cities. A walking tour Monday morning and an afternoon reception at the Executive Mansion commemorated the 150th anniversary of the surrender.
