Flytecase was founded in January of 2009. The initial encounters happen through classified ads and after a few test rehearsals they steer full steam ahead. The band originates from the Walloon region in Belgium. With Nathalie on lead vocals, Geert on guitar, Eigenharp and backing vocals, Eric on drums and Laurent on bass guitar, Flytecase plays alternative pop-rock music.
All members have quite a few years of musical experience and the required synergy sets in rapidly as they compose their repertoire, now comprised of 14 songs. Thanks to being finalists in de prestigious 'Envol Des Cités' contest, Flytecase tours intensively for several several months on large stages, under professional circumstances. This experience has allowed them to develop a stage presence that can otherwise take years to acquire. However, as priorities in life change, so does passion and in February of 2010 their first bass player, Bernard, leaves the band and Laurent takes his place. During the summer of 2010, Flytecase enters the studio to record “Speaker Mind”, their auto-produced debut album with eight tracks. On December 6th of that year the CD is digitally released and one month later the physical copy is available.
The music and the lyrics
The lyrics are rooted in life and inspiration is taken from experiences. Feelings like joy, pain, doubt, love, disappointment, fuel the lyrics of Flytecase, but also the music, where authenticity, groove, sound and atmosphere are more important than technical prowess. The idea is to create a bubble, a cocoon, a jewel case, in which the dual vocals of Nathalie and Geert can nest. This takes quite a bit of effort but the starting point is always the same: the song has to work on its own, without accessories, just vocals and an instrument. This is mandatory. Afterwards comes the search for an atmosphere and unique melodies for each instrument and for each song. The arrangements add new dimensions to songs, they broaden the horizons but can't be used to save them. In the end, Flytecase offers a diversified set that oscillates between an indie pop and more a powerful alternative rock. The purpose is to awaken emotions in the audience or rather to share them, since they're very present on stage.
Flytecase stands for flight case, of course, those “magical” cases, melting pot of cables, hardware and accessories in which musicians and technicians find their happiness. This corresponds well with the spirit that guides the band as they're purists of sound and technology and blend this with their soulful roots.
