Bonacca tells the story of a few Honduran fly fishing guides from the Bay Island of Guanaja. In 1998, Hurricane Mitch ravaged Guanaja, and the natives were stripped of nearly everything, including almost 95% of their mangrove population which was a vital habitat to their fishery. In Mitch's wake, an already struggling economy found it difficult to rebuild.

Check out our spot in the new edition of This is Fly Magazine at www.thisisfly.com

"Despite the progress the community has made, Guanaja is still rebuilding nearly fifteen years after Mitch hit, where resorts like Posado del Sol, a once-vibrant waterfront establishment, have been abandoned. Now the skeletons of these one-time monuments to progress, serve as ghostly reminders of the island’s worst natural disaster. Perhaps the slowest to rebuild are the mangroves. On the northeast side of Guanaja lies a graveyard of mangroves, completely decimated by the fierce winds of Hurricane Mitch. An estimated 95% of the mangroves were unable to recover."

Fish on!  However, what is really happening here, is a jack in a big school of bonefish grabbed the fly before any of the intended targets could have a good luck.  That being said, I've had worse days!
