An area of steady rain is moving through the Finger Lakes this morning. This will taper off to showers later this morning and this afternoon. No flooding is expected.

There are no changes to the weekend forecast or next week. After today, we should enjoy a nice, long, rain-free stretch of great weather.

Sunshine will increase this morning across the Finger Lakes, but high thin clouds will move back in this afternoon. Rain showers are in the forecast for Thursday morning, but before you groan...this should be the LAST rain we see at least into the middle of next week. Some really great weather is coming for the Finger Lakes, at last!

The heavy rain and flooding threat is finally over for the Finger Lakes. A few showers will dot the region today, but they will not cause any problems.

I am keeping a weary eye on the next system late this week, though. Most models keep this storm primarily to the south, but it is still too far out to be sure. Beyond that system though, it looks like we are in for a nice stretch of weather for the weekend and into much of next week.

Rain and thunderstorms will continue this morning before a midday lull in the activity. More storms should develop this afternoon. The flash flood threat still exists but is generally not as high today thanks to lower amounts of moisture in the atmosphere.

Rain and thunderstorms are expected to develop late Sunday afternoon and continue through the evening hours. Once again, these storms will tap into a number of factors to produce torrential, possibly excessive amounts of rain. Flash flooding will be possible. Exactly where the biggest threat will unfold is a bit uncertain, but the entire area should monitor the weather tonight.

The weather is not showing all its cards for the weekend forecast, so confidence remains well below normal.

Still, I am not going to leave you with nothing to go on! I've got scenarios for both Saturday and Sunday outlined as well as how likely I feel each one is. That way, you at least know what the different options are ahead of time.

Plus, I will of course be with you through the weekend with the latest updates as this complex pattern unfolds.

Temperatures Wednesday will push into the mid and upper 80s across the Finger Lakes — the warmest it has been since June 19th! It will at least remain dry today but there is growing concern for severe thunderstorms late Thursday afternoon and evening.

Areas of fog will burn off this morning but will redevelop tonight. Otherwise, it will be a quiet, very nice day in the Finger Lakes.

The next chances for rain are Wednesday/Thursday and during the weekend.

Typically, the rain and thunderstorms today would not be much of a problem...and for areas that have not seen torrential rains recently, they won't be. However, for the southeastern Finger Lakes, the ground remains saturated and can take on very little additional rain. As thunderstorms develop early this afternoon, flash flooding is a very real possibility in the same areas hit hard last week.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE...do NOT drive through fast moving flood waters! Videos are still circulating on Facebook from last week of people putting their lives...and the lives of first responders...in danger by driving through flood waters. There is no way to tell how deep the water really is — the road may be completely washed away underneath! I cannot stress enough...DON'T DO IT. Turn around and find an alternate route!

The flash flooding risk will vary today. The western Finger Lakes only has a minimal chance for flooding, but the rain soaked areas of the eastern Finger Lakes will have an elevated risk once again as more thunderstorms develop this afternoon. Be sure to read this for all the details and check your Zip-Code Forecast for the exact threat level for your town.
