What have you delayed doing that you'd really enjoy?
Follow It’s inevitable that as we get older, we will attend more funerals. There’s nothing that reminds us of our own mortality like watching our friends and contemporaries succumb to illnesses or die of natural causes. One of my friends uses funerals to remind herself to keep busy enjoying her life. “Every time I return …

Check out Mark Twain's desk, then the infographic, then your desk. Be sure to leave a comment. I'm eager to know which tips resonate with you.
Follow   Take a look at the desk of Mark Twain and then check out the infographic below from OmniPapers.com on organizing your writing space.  While there are some admirable suggestions, a number of them just don’t fit my reality. I agree that being organized helps you be more productive and that you need to …

My desk is not quite that messy, but it's a long way from the image in the infographic.

We were raised to smile on cue, my two sisters and I. When my mother pulled out her Kodak Brownie camera and posed us in front of our house or church, we knew to break out into full-toothed smiles. Look happy. Snap. An outward show of unhappiness was not allowed.

This is how I begin Chapter 1 of Color Your Life Happy: Create Your Unique Path and Claim the Joy You Deserve. Read the rest of the excerpt at http://bit.ly/1UTNpIk and discover how to pre-order an autographed copy before it is released to the public.

Thanks Susan for your timely thoughts on social media. It's amazing how much  emotion people invest in reacting to comments or lamenting the lack of them on Facebook and such places.  Are their computers missing the delete key or unsubscribe link?

Along with your advice about taking an occasional break from social media and not becoming emotionally invested in it, I'd like to remind authors and others that we have control over our privacy settings, and can unfriend folks and limit our reach.

On the other hand, as a marketer you can't have it both ways. You can't market yourself and book widely and limit your exposure at the same time.  As with anything, we must use wisdom and discover what works best for us to reach our business and personal goals.

Hi Flora, Great insights. Social media by its very nature tends toward the superficial. With the 24/7 din of commerce, propaganda, slants and personal agendas going on, it's a challenge. But like you say - it's our choice. Delete, unfollow, unsubscribe, take a hiatus . . . but always keep your perspective and sense of humor intact.

I was willing to go alone.
Follow Now this may sound too obvious even to mention, but it’s true. Many years ago, when my kids watched Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood, an American children’s TV series that began in the 1960s, one of his popular songs was “You’ve Got to Do It.” The gist of this seemingly simple song was that you can …

Happiness is not what we like to think it is.
Follow Happiness is not the absence of sadness. Quite the contrary. Happy people acknowledge sadness and allow themselves to feel it. They choose to not be crushed by it, but instead learn from it and move beyond it. Happiness is not the situational emotional high you feel when you win the lottery or get a …
