Will the Northern Lights be visible to the UK tonight?
According to scientists, a mass ejection of particles from the sun two days ago has meant the likelihood of seeing the northern lights across much of the UK tonight is a large possibility.

They are due to move a lot further south than normal, according to the Space Weather Prediction Centre in Boulder, Colorado.

In fact the colours could be seen as far down as southern Wales and parts of southern England.

Mark Haywood from Off the Map Travel, a soft adventure travel company specialising in the Northern Lights, told the Telegraph: “This is not an exact science but the likelihood is that tonight could provide people in southern parts of Britain a rare opportunity."

Steve Marple from the AuroraWatch UK research group, based at Lancaster University, added: “We do not want to get too many people’s hopes up only to see them dashed, but are observing closely and the conditions do look promising."
