I thought since so many people constantly praise squats that I would go the other way and give the downsides of this exercise. Some points that I cover are this exercise neglects a major lower body muscle...and there are many ways that one can injure themselves from this exercise due to bad form. When a muscle called the Serratus is weak in you, your shoulder blades can poke out in the back like bird wings, which not only doesn't look good, but can increase your chances of getting an injury. This technique is not only effective for pain relief, but also for massaging out trigger points, or muscle knots. Although the upright row is a bad exercise because it often causes shoulder impingement in people, the exercise I show is arguably even worse and can injure you faster.
