As you'll see, there's still a good bit of uncertainty on specifics, but this is the latest information on the major, potentially historic, winter storm that is on the way for late this week into the weekend. I discussed specific regions that could be impacted and included a detailed discussion. If you are in the regions that I mentioned or are in the surrounding regions, please take special note. Please read and share!

-Matthew
A potentially historic winter storm could be on the way for the United States, with the bullseye possibly being possibly being over the Mid-Atlantic.

Good early morning, everyone! This is a weekend forecast written specifically for the Northeast. I know that my forecasts generally cover the entire United States, but Rob is going to begin specifically covering the Northeast. If this is received well, Firsthand Weather will eventually start doing this for other regions of the U.S., as soon as I'm able to bring on a couple of additional meteorologists.

I think region-specific forecasts will supplement the forecasts that I put out. I will continue doing what I've always been doing, but it's nice to have forecasts that are specific to your area. Plus, I can only cover so many regions without leaving other regions out. I'm ready to improve that!

Even if you're not in the Northeast, please take a couple of minutes to read this. I'd definitely like to hear your feedback in the comments. Please read and share! -Matthew
Good overnight to all of you! A lot of the comments we receive when we put out forecasts ask about forecasts for specific areas. In the past, Firsthand Weather has done forecasts for large areas and while we do try to break those forecasts down for local areas on specific storms, we have not generally …

A pattern transition should start to emerge right after the New Year. I'm keeping a close eye on the first half of January, as there could be an increased winter storm risk during that period. The article includes all of the details. Please read and share. -Matthew
A change to the overall pattern in January could bring an increased risk of winter storms across the South.

One long-range model is predicting another cold winter for many across the United States. Please read and share! -Matthew
As many of you know, I tend to not be a big fan of forecasts based primarily on forecast model guidance and am a firm believer that models should only be used as tools to aid in improving forecast accuracy. If we’re lucky, these tools do okay for about a week out, but beyond that, …

As of 8 pm ET, Hurricane Joaquin has rapidly intensified and now has sustained winds of 105 mph. I wrote up a detailed analysis on this storm that should answer many of your questions, although not all of them. . .yet. If you live along the East Coast, start making plans just in case. This article details a lot of the specifics.

Please read and share this article to get this information out.

-Matthew
Hurricane Joaquin could majorly impact the East Coast with excessive rainfall and strong winds if it makes the connection with the trough.

Beware of bogus winter forecasts floating around on the internet, and ALWAYS verify that a website or social media page is credible before sharing their content. I expect Firsthand Weather to be held to that same standard.
