The Importance Of Summer Roofing Maintenance
Summer brings some challenging weather conditions, including high temperatures, humidity, pouring rain, thunderstorms and heavy winds. Taking the time to perform some quick checks of your roof and minor roofing system maintenance assures you of three important factors:
– Your roof is up to the task of handling Summer heat and storms.
– Your roof is in good operating condition.
– You're on track to meet or extend the life expectancy of your roof.

It is essential to have your roof inspected during the summer. Here is why
One of the more common problems that we see on roofs in the summertime is overheating. Overheating of the shingles causes the granules to fall off and the shingle to blister. The granules are the only thing that blocks the ashpalt tar from the uv rays so this in turn causes more damage. If a roof is getting this hot, it most likely does not have enough ventilation.
Another problem that the sun causes is deterioration of rubber. On many new houses all of the pipe flashings are rubber boot-style flashings and can be dry-rotted by the sun.
There are several problems with these boots deteriorating. These failing boots cause leaking into your home’s attic and they can be hard to replace without damaging shingles. One solution to this is called a permaboot. This is a plastic cover that goes over the existing boot and pipe which permanently fixes the problem. How can underlayment and proper ventilation help prevent moisture build up?
Over the last 10-15 years, the roofing underlayment market has undergone a major shift from traditional asphalt felts to synthetic underlayments. In the early 2000s, there were a handful of synthetic underlayment products all trying to wrestle a sliver of the market away from asphalt felts. Today, there is an endless array of synthetic underlayment brands available, with more coming every day. This exponential growth can be attributed to the increasing number of contractors who value the enhanced features and performance of synthetic underlayments. In addition to features, pricing is a major driver as the gap between synthetics and felt continues to shrink, helping to loosen felt’s grip on the market.
