I dunno if this will help you, but I always refer to the very first draft of anything--book, novella, short story, whatever--as the "vomit draft". You purge your soul of that story, you write just to get it out. Give yourself permission to write 800 words of history and rambling back story. Give yourself permission to write stuff like "blah blah blah INSERT RESEARCH HERE". Give yourself permission to tie up your internal editor in a corner and duct tape her mouth.

Once you've binged and purged, then you edit and give it to other people to read. Then you edit again. And again. And then one more time. And then, maybe, it's done and ready to be booted out the door like a 30-year-old still living in his mother's basement.

Remember: "It doesn't have to be perfect. It just has to be written."
