Local Funeral Director Participates In National Mentoring Program

Altavista, Virginia – Trey Finch of Finch & Finch, Inc. Funeral and Cremation Service in Altavista and Gladys was one of 50 funeral directors nationwide selected to participate in the National Funeral Directors Association’s (NFDA) Meet the Mentors program. Meet the Mentors is supported by the Funeral Service Foundation.

Meet the Mentors, which took place March 16-18 at the Emory Conference Center Hotel in Atlanta, Georgia, brought young funeral professionals together to learn from four of the country’s leading funeral directors and network with like-minded peers. During the program, each mentor gave a presentation in which they shared lessons they have learned about how to build a successful and fulfilling career in funeral service. After the presentations, there was a panel discussion followed by small group discussions with each mentor.

Trey received a BS in Business Administration from Ferrum College in 2010, an Associate degree in Funeral Service from John Tyler CC in 2012, and was licensed in Virginia as a Funeral Service Licensee in 2013.  Trey is a member of the Board of Directors for the Altavista Chamber of Commerce and the Vice President of the Southside Funeral Directors Association.  He and his wife Brooke reside in Altavista with their daughter Austen and canine companion Harlee.

“The Meet the Mentors program was a very enlightening experience.  I have been able to gain associates from around the country and discuss many different issues. This program provides an experience that cannot be taught in a book; it is real life failures and successes that I hope to learn from. The knowledge that I have gained, I hope will help improve our client family’s experiences with us.”

More information about the NFDA Meet the Mentors program can be found on the NFDA website, www.nfda.org/mentors.

I would reaffirm all of these as the reasons we exist as an organization.”
