Vietnam
The South-East-Asian country with a sizable population of 65 million enjoys annual GDP growth of around 6% and is expected to be one of the fastest growing economies in the decades ahead. By 2050, PWC expects the country's economy to reach 70% of the size of the UK's. Vietnam is not only opening up to foreign investment and liberalizing its economy, with now 400 state-firms scheduled for privatization. The Vietnamese government is also strengthening its military ties with the US in face of territorial disputes with China in the South-China Sea.

Bangkok - Central Business District - Thailand
Thailand's central business district - called Lumpini - has been the site of many of Thailand's frequent political demonstrations, including the 2013/14 demonstrations which eventually led to the country's current ruling by the military. Political instability is a major reason for Thailand's struggling economy, which just grew by 0.6% year-on-year in Q3 of 2014.

An “Elevator” for Ships - The Falkirk Wheel, Scotland, UK
The Falkirk Wheel was part of a project completed in 2002 to re-connnect Scotland’s two largest cities - Glasgow and Edinburgh - by canal. Two boats can enter the wheel simultaneously, one at a channel at the top and one at the bottom. After the locks are closed the wheel rotates by 180°, elevating one and lowering the other ship. Turning the wheel is remarkably efficient, only taking as much energy as needed to boil 8 kettles of water.
The project cost GBP 78mill or USD 122mill.

The Monastero Santa Rosa Hotel - Amalfi Coast - Italy
Located at the famous Amalfi Coast south of Naples, Italy, the hotel is a symbol of the strong local tourism sector. Despite this, the provinces south of Rome are currently facing a catastrophic economic and demographic decline, with negative GDP growth for the last 6 years. In 2013 alone, 116,000 people left the region permanently for better job opportunities in Northern Italy and in other EU countries.
