My daughter (age 19) and I had a glorious time chez Madison's. The chat, the banter, the haircut, the shampooing, the goodie bag, the laughter, the great prices - all were critical building blocks to an overall excellent and memorable experience. My wee one, who'd last been at a hairdressers only four years previously, was so terrified that she was verging on hyper-ventilating. Shortly after her lovely cup of tea, she got into the groove and enjoyed herself so much she's now demanding a fancy demi-wave for her Christmas! Madison's is a fair trip out to the outskirts of Edinburgh but you are more than rewarded by the very reasonable prices and great customer experience.

Steve Marlow is first of all a decent bloke. Not a great selling point for some, but for me, it's a rare a valuable find to discover people with true integrity, skill and passion for their craft. Steve fixed the virus on my laptop within no time at all, ran the diagnostics, PC tuneup, checked for virus, malware, registry errors, checked all system software was up to date (windows 7) cleared disk caches and removed temporary files no longer required, defragged the hard drive and a tonne of other stuff. Bascially, not only did he handle the job in a courteous and timely fashion, he buffed and polished my machine to make sure it was working at peak performance before handing it back to me. I can't recommend Steve highly enough since he loves his job and is extremely knowledgeable about the back end of a computer.

Unbelievably awesome views from The Old Chain Pier. Make sure you get a seat with a view so you can watch the waves lapping underneath you. Only had a coffee so can't comment on the food yet but I shall defo be back since the decor was good, views amazing, service pleasant, and good wifi. I'll let you know about the food too

Unbelievably wonderful wee restaurant. Snuggled into a beautifully decorated basement (with gorgeous chairs outside sitting under the cover of the stairs for the stinky smokers - I speak as a recent non-smoker).Each morsel has passed the slow-cooking test and is in such peak seasonal fitness, it should be renamed The Usain Bolt Larder Bistro. Not only is the menu built around the seasons, it's an entirely ethical restaurant that sources local AND free range produce. As far as provenance is concerned, they defo kick ass in the Edinburgh resto scene. The food is served slow too but that's because I doubt there's a microwave within sight of the restaurant. Zapped food never tastes so good and is only ever hot 'on the outside' and cools so quickly. Myself and my Highland guest had the Pumpkin and Honey Soup with Homemade Soda Bread and Herb Butter. At the beginning, we chatted amiably and caught up with all the news. Within a short space of time, the true test of great food kicked in - silence - as we savoured each spoonful. My Homemade Pork Pie with Winter Slaw and Their Own Fresh Chutney was the height of my winter 2012 season already and I doubt will be surpassed. The Highlander's Pumpkin Drop Scones with Peelham Farm Organic Bacon or Mull Cheddar and Seasonal Salad was equally drop dead gorgeous.Friendly service in a lovely designed conservatory in the centre of the West End is a must-go-eat right away

Unbelievably beautiful place for food, coffee and especially their sumptuous hot chocolate. The decor is clean, elegant, stylish and lots of folks are busy networking, having business chats, and moving the world forward cappucino by cappucino. Food is fabulous but the service is a tad abrupt. Nobody minds being moved from one large table to a smaller one when folks have moved on, but the snappy tone was rather misguided, and the failure to propose another table when all seemed full, was a tad unwelcome. We had a big social media expert in from America who was appalled at the attitude and was determined to make friends but the only reception was frosty and peremptory. Hope it was just a bad day and it's not always like this

Despite being in a gorgeous part of the city and with fabulous service from uber friendly peeps, the decor seemed a bit tired. Obviously the concept and layout were lovely, as is only to be expected from a large chain but the decor just needed a wee bit of oomph. Great wee den up in the crow's nest where there are about 4 tables and 2 sockets for charging up. Brilliant for working and even conducting interviews, as was happening while I was there.

Food is bang tidy. Fresh ingredients, beautifully presented, very tasty. Not cheap but modern and great value nontheless. The most gigantic range of whiskys in the world and expert staff to advice. A lovely meeting place in town for coffee, lunch or networking. The acoustics could be improved - sometimes when it's quiet, one's conversation can reverberate around the room - but lovely decor.
