Great to see my recent update of my article is useful :)
Site and SEO audits can be very time-consuming. The biggest challenge we came across was that we wanted to have all URL’s visible, but that was a much bigger task than we expected.

If you have a well-crafted & complex robots.txt file (e.g., longer than two lines), keep in mind that Applebot will follow Googlebot directives unless you explicitly set up a user-agent section for it. I'm not aware of other crawlers doing something similar, so I thought it would be worth sharing.

How to steal an election: A visual guide!

Regardless of your party affiliation, you'll agree politics is in a terribly polarized state at the moment. Among the big contributors to this sad reality is gerrymandering. The practice of drawing election districts to suite one political party.

The graphic below does a great job of explaining this, simply.

How does this influence elections: In Pennsylvania, in 2012, Democrats won 51 percent of the popular House vote. But the only won 5 out of 18 House seats -- fewer than one third. This was because when Pennsylvania Republicans redrew the state's Congressional districts, they made highly irregular districts.

To be crystal clear, both parties do this. If you want to see a real example of this insanity: Poster child: Illionis: https://goo.gl/KGN6ns

With districts gerrymandered into safe districts or to lean one way or the other, there is less of an incentive to solve for everyone in the district. You solve for your people, screw the other side.

The good news is that in some states, like California, independent commissions are drawing districts. This is great.

The better news is that we should simply take humans out of the equation. There is software now that can do this way, way, better: https://goo.gl/wxiFsp Though, given current political realities, I give that a snowballs chance in hell of happening.

Every voter should have a meaningful vote in every election, and their Political Representatives truly solve for all their constituents. This is not true for America today.

You might not realize this, but for the Nov 2016 elections 85% of the seats in the US House of Reps are "truly safe" (non-competitive). This is not great for our wonderful democracy.

Let's all care a bit more, let's support www.fairvote.org

Thank you.

No surprise here!

Facebook's Inflated Stats and Sketchy Process for Video Growth

That "8 Billion video views on Facebook" number is something we should be highly skeptical about. Worth watching this slightly hyperbolic video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t7tA3NNKF0Q and then checking out the more data-driven article upon which it's based: https://medium.com/@hankgreen/theft-lies-and-facebook-video-656b0ffed369

Let's meet this Friday at Performance Marketing Insights! Find out about SEO Performance Indicators That Matter at #PMI #London Boot Camp at Westminster Park Plaza, starting 1.30pm.
 Link: https://www.performancemarketinginsights.com/15/london/boot-camps/seo-performance-indicators-matter/

Event description: Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is all about making websites better understood by search engines instead of merely hoping they would figure it all out by themselves. It’s both an art and a science. While many algorithm updates and policies remain obscure, it can be hard to know which performance indicators into future search engine visibility of large sites matter. This bootcamp, hosted by Kaspar Szymanski - former member of the Google Search Quality team, will discuss the more important performance indicators and answer any organic search related questions from the audience.

When and where: PMI London Boot Camp, Day Two 13:30–14:15 PLAZA SUITES 1–3
