Why do my brakes squeak?

This is a good question.
Brake Noises can be annoying.
The first thing to do is figure out what type of Brake Noise you have?
Morning Brake Noises can be caused by moisture built up overnight.
The second type of Brake Noise could be a scraping when you are driving without your foot on the Brake Pedal.
Some Brake Noises when you come to a stop could be normal.
These would be caused by the composition of the Brake Pad.
The best thing to do is have a Brake Inspection by a qualified Mechanic.

Why Is An Oil Change Important

An oil change consists of draining the old oil from a vehicle's engine and replacing it with new oil, and the oil filter is also changed. The engine in your vehicle has many moving parts, as the various parts move and rub against each other which causes friction which then creates heat. Getting your regularly scheduled oil change will help prolong the life of your vehicle, failing to get your oil changed can be harmful to your vehicle. Because the job of the engine oil is lubrication, new oil allows for the moving parts of the engine to move freely and without hesitation. When you fail to change the oil for a long period of time buildup occurs as the oil breaks down and ultimately the engine will seize resulting in very costly repairs.

Top Five reasons to get your vehicle's oil changed:
Cools engine components
Maintains engine lubrication
Increases gas mileage
Prolongs the life of your vehicle
Removes engine buildup

BRAKE MAKING A SQUEAKING OR HIGH PITCH NOISE

Typically first sign of brake-pad wear is a high-pitched squealing. This sound may come from a soft-metal wear indicator that rubs against the brake rotor to alert the driver that a change of brake pads is needed. A metallic grinding sound means that brake pads may be damaging the brake rotors.Call us today 503-828-3687 for your free brake inspection

What happens if a Timing Belt Breaks ?

If the timing belt breaks, they run into each other, causing bent valves (most common), cylinder head or camshaft damage, and possibly piston and cylinder wall damage. While it is possible that no damage could occur from a snapped belt on an interference engine, An interference type engine means that the valve’s stroke and piston’s stroke take up the same space in the cylinder, so the timing belt essentially keeps them from smashing into each other, since they do it at different times, such a case is unlikely.

In a non-interference engine, the pistons and valves don’t occupy the same space, so if the timing belt snaps, no valve or cylinder damage occurs. You just pop a new belt on, and the engine should theoretically drive normally.

So if you would like to find out if you have a interference or non-interference engine referring to this list. If you have any questions please call Fidelity Auto Care Center (503)-718-6782 and talk with one our team member specialist.

Why is my clutch making a whining noise?

The clutch can be worn while the clutch disc and the flywheel are spinning at different speeds. When they are locked together they spin in sync. When the clutch disc is slipping against the flywheel that wearing of the disc can occur. If your clutch won't release properly, it will continue to turn the input shaft and this can cause grinding or a whining noise. Also if you're in neutral at an idle and a faint whining or twirling noise occurs that is a sign that your vehicle is in need of a throwout bearing or a new clutch.

How important is a coolant flush?

If a vehicle is continually operated with old coolant, major engine damage can occur if a coolant flush is neglected due to your vehicle not having the proper protection provided by the coolant. Damage to the radiator, heater core, water pump and other cooling system components is preventable by simply having your coolant flush. Simple preventative measures can ensure the longevity and performance of your vehicle and save you a ton of money! It is recommended depending on the type of coolant your vehicle uses every 30-50,000 miles.
So come into Fidelity Auto Care and ask us about getting your coolant flush and while you're here ask us about other preventative care such as an oil change!
