A little Chinese Wisdom for a Saturday

One of my favorite Fu Dogs at Green Design on The Alameda. Chinese guardian lions or Imperial guardian lions, traditionally known in Chinese simply as Shi (Chinese: 獅; pinyin: shī; literally: "lion"), and often called "Fu Dogs" in the West, are a common representation of the lion in imperial China.

Fu Dogs have traditionally stood in front of Chinese Imperial palaces, Imperial tombs, government offices, temples, and the homes of government officials and the wealthy, from the Han Dynasty (206 BC-AD 220), and were believed to have powerful mythic protective benefits.

Choosing a design theme is really quite simple. Do you love elephants? Do an elephant-themed dining room! Start with a favorite art piece, and use it to inform your paint colors. Call us if you get stumped! ;-)

Can't decide on a paint color? How about an entire wall of chalkboard! How fun is this rustic dining room? It might be a gallery for the kid's artwork, or a menu of tonight's specials. Either way, it's super cool and dramatic.

This design would be spectacular for a Wealth area (the Southeast quadrant of your room, home, or office). Purple is the most powerful wealth color - so when you don't have time to mess around - go for it!

Check out this gorgeous sandstone feature wall. We're currently using a lot of dramatic stone in our designs - agate, onyx, and malachite to name a few. Stay tuned for some after photos!

This room has great Feng Shui. A fountain would help balance out the Five Elements.

Our client had fairly ugly, dated, oak cabinets in his kitchen. He didn’t have the budget to upgrade them. The only thing that made the cabinets dated was the finish. Oak is better than particle board, any day. So, I had to get creative. Check out the Before and After photos below. These are the SAME cabinets. We painted them white, cut out the middles, added glass, and silver barrel pulls. Voila!
