Another great video criticizing Islam, the racism of low expectations, and the fraud that is Reza Aslam.

A new term has been coined; the "regressive left", which perfectly describes a kind of thinking that has become more and more prevalent of late, and it's a real danger to real liberals, or "progressive" liberals, in fact, a danger to society in general.

+Wouter Cloetens Yes, that was my point. My take on vegetarianism was just a tool to support it, even if I'm wrong, the point remains. The point is we should be open to accept the possibility that we are wrong, which is something most SJWs don't do.

Exactly my experience with Google interviews.

Looks like they want to find more Sheldons, not people who actually get things done.

+Felipe Contreras The next time someone complains on "trial and error" methodology, you could cite this paper "On the Complexity of Trial and Error" [http://arxiv.org/pdf/1205.1183v2.pdf]  :-D
"An important feature of the approach is its solution orientation... The most critical ingredient in the trial and error approach is how to employ previously returned errors to propose future trials. This procedure is algorithmic in nature, but it does not seem to have been formally addressed from an algorithmic perspective."  :-P

“You, yourself, this whole big drama, it was never more than a jerry rig of presumption and dumb will, and you could just let go. To finally know that you didn’t have to hold on so tight. To realize that all your life, all your love, all your  hate, all your memories, all your pain, it was all the same thing. It was all the same dream, a dream that you had inside a locked room, a dream about being a person. And like a lot of dreams, there’s a monster at the end of it.”

Great video explaining the subtletees of the whole Islam discussion, our desire to judge them to different standards in the name of multiculturalism, or rather, the desire of the regressive left.

http://bigthink.com/videos/maajid-nawaz-on-islamic-reform
The author and activist explores the well-intentioned, yet harmful way members of the left prioritize tolerance over reform within Islam.

Sigh, GNOME developers and their firm grasp on reality.

Does anybody remembers their target of 10% of the global desktop market by 2010?

How We Will Get There? Let's start by changing everything from one release to the next, pissing half our user-base, not giving them the option to keep their old workflows, tell them we know better, and ignore any negative feedback.

Good strategy.

Where Are We Now? In March 2005, the Computer Industry Almanac (C-I-A) estimated the number of personal computers at 820 million, growing to 1 billion until 2007. See http://www.c-i-a.com/pr0305.htm for the state of play in 2004. According to Dan Kuznetsky of IDC, "OS X has a 2.7 percent market ...

Yes GNOME seems to have the biggest market share of Linux DE's. I think that's more of a testament of how bad the rest of the DE's are, more than how good GNOME is.

Amazing visualization indeed! Even with wonderful presentations like this, I'm not sure I can ever truly grasp the scale of lives lost in WWII.

This also touches on cognitive bias. Some time ago I realised that my elementary school teacher had consciously trained us to overcome a number of common cognitive biases. The primary tool she used was daily time-limited pop quizzes that specifically targeted these biases. The only way to level up was to learn to counter the bias. I can't thank her enough.
