I crossed Snoqualmie Pass this past weekend and it was closed several times because of spin outs. When that happens, one has to sit and wait. In this case, I sat for almost two hours.

Remember folks, slow down when there is snow and slush on the road. If you're crossing one of the mountain passes over the Thanksgiving weekend, beware that inclement weather is predicted.

Be sure you are prepared for delays on the highway. Some tips:

1. Make sure your fuel tank is full. If you have to idle for a while, you will burn fuel.
2. Pack an extra coat, blanket, gloves.
3. Pack extra food and water.
4. Pack an emergency kit including road flares, chains, and kitty litter or sand and a small shovel.
