FUN FACT
In Final Fantasy VI, ever wondered why you could always find an Elixir in clocks? It was a belief by those who practiced alchemy that you could make the elixir of life by storing it in a clock. Many European recipes specify that elixir is to be stored in clocks to amplify the effects of immortality on the user.

FantasyAnime vs. the Flash ban!

Ugh, I spent all weekend removing Flash from the site. Chrome, the world's #1 browser, will be blocking Flash by default soon. I made most of my FantasyAnime's RPG shrines in the mid 2000's when Flash was very popular. So Flash is everywhere.

To "remove Flash" I have to re-create the Flash elements in HTML5. I don't have a lot of time on my hands, so I did quick band-aide workarounds. And I wanted to keep the 2005 look and feel.

The easiest shrines to convert were the ones with a video. It was just a matter of converting the Flash video to HTML5 video. Like for Chrono Trigger:

For some shrines, it would've been too much work to re-create the Flash. For Secret of Mana, for example, the Flash had a cool effect of birds flying in the background. No more birds :( I replaced it with just a static background:

My biggest challenge were the RPG shrines that have an interactive hover map. For Tenchi Muyo RPG and SaGa Frontier I was able to replicate the Flash maps entirely into HTML5:

For other shrines, I removed the hover map for something a little cooler. For Magic Knight Rayearth I used some CSS3 animation to animate clouds and a bouncing Mokona:

Similar to above, I used the same CSS3 cloud effect for Live-A-Live:

Terranigma had a cool 3D Flash animation. I couldn't figure out a feasible way to make it into HTML5. So I replaced it with a video:
http://fantasyanime.com/legacy/terranigma.htm

With CSS3 you can 3D rotate text. That effect was perfect for recreating Treasure Hunter G's Flash layout:

I tried to use animated GIFs wherever possible, since they auto-play on mobile devices (HTML5 video doesn't). I replaced Arcana's Flash with a maze-crawling GIF:
http://fantasyanime.com/legacy2/arcana.htm

That's the gist of it. I did a lot more work than what's mentioned here. I'm going to miss the glory days of Flash :( It broke my heart having to removing it.

Ideally, I would love to just completely remake every RPG shrine to bring them up to modern standards and quality. I don't have the time for that right now. For sure in the future :)

The first boss battle in Breath of Fire (SNES)!

Have you played this game, or its sequel? Did you like them?

Played the GBA version, found it to be too linear and too easy for my taste. Maybe it was a watered down version, as most GBA ones.

The shocking scene in the very beginning of Parasite Eve when Melissa (Eve) sets the audience ablaze by manipulating their mitochondria :o

Parasite Eve is an action/RPG by Squaresoft, released in 1998 for the PlayStation 1. It's a really awesome game!

Story

Dedicated to fantasy RPG video games, anime, and other related areas of interest
Introduction
FantasyAnime was born in 1998 through my desire to spread the happiness that video games and anime have given me.

*FantasyAnime's Anime Galleries*
In the early years, FantasyAnime focused mostly on anime and housed several massive screen shot galleries. Particularly, FantasyAnime was known for its incredibly popular "Pokemon Picture Archive", containing hundreds of screen captures from the Pokemon anime. However, as the Internet evolved (birth of Google Image Search) the demand for anime screen shots died down. Most of the anime galleries have been taken down due to lack of interest both on my part and with demand. I do have some plans, though, as to how to resurrect it :) Stay tuned.

*FantasyAnime's RPG Shrines*
"FantasyAnime" directly implies anime of the fantasy genre, but I try to expand its definition to identify video games (from Japan). FantasyAnime has always had its RPG shrines, dedicated to various classic RPGs. Every year new RPG shrines would be added. What makes FantasyAnime special in this aspect is the selection of RPGs. There are many great RPGs in Japan that were never officially released in North America. Dedicated fans with knowledge of "ROM hacking" and the Japanese language took it upon themselves to translate these games for us. FantasyAnime helped a great deal in the promotion of these fan translated RPGs by shrining these rare gems. The RPG portion of FantasyAnime has received the most focus so it is the largest & best part of the site.

*Subsites & Features*
Because it is my mission to spread the happiness that anime and gaming have given me, I've wanted to make it as easy as possible for people to experience them. I offer all the best video game emulators for download on a single page. I created "Video Game Emulation for Newbies", a subsite with tutorials for every popular video game emulator. I created "Translation Nation" for people anticipating other Japanese RPGs that could potentially be translated to English. I created "RPG Lunch Break" for people temporarily bored of playing RPGs to play other great classics. I created "The Magical Wonders of Save State Hacking" to teach people how to cheat with any RPG.

*The future...?*
My passion and dedication has not wavered over time. FantasyAnime will always be around and continue to be updated/improved. Expect more exciting additions for the years to come!
