Why does TLS need to know what the Application Layer Protocol is? I need to read the standards and histories here, but it seems strange to me that RFC 7301 even exists. This seems like the equivalent of allowing TCP clients and servers to negotiate which application level protocol will be used over the resulting TCP connection.

Excellent paper about how we may be going about multimedia on the Internet wrongly, with our unjustified insistence of streaming:

"The Right to be forgotten"

Apparently, someone used the EU "right to be forgotten" law to request that google remove an email thread of them asking for help using svn.

I want to LOL, but I really don't know what to make of this. I'm inclined to think the person was not really embarrassed, but was merely experimenting with the law.

I like to think that I won't personally feel so embarassed about all the newbie questions or problems I encountered in my journey with any piece of technology, so long as I can look at myself in the present and think I'm certainly much better than back then :)

Back in the days when I participated in the starting of the Subversion project, I found the mailing list archive we had really dysfunctional and hard to use, so I set up a separate archive for the benefit of everyone who wanted an alternative way to find Subversion related posts.

All software that is handed down by IT administrators tends to universally suck. Such software is selected simply on how friendly it is to the IT administrators.

This must have previously been codified somewhere in one of the commandments of information technology.

How on earth did Google release a note taking app that doesn't have the ability to copy and paste text?????

That's about enough of this rubbish. I'm going back to evernote. Pfffff.

Presently, the only way to download all your photos from Google+ Photos (say to restore them on your local PC) is to use Google Takeaway: https://www.google.com/settings/takeout

It does the job, but it took a bit of hunting to discover it. Maybe this saves you time.

You go to the supermarket and see headlines for articles filled with half-truths like this, and you somehow feel like someday you're going to get into trouble for not looking like everyone else...

Almost every article I've read about this subject has conveniently ignored the fact that if you need a Visa to work in the UK, you don't qualify for any benefits, and that if you are an EU citizen, you cannot be deported.

So who exactly are these migrants who are able to miraculously claim benefits, and has anybody worked out the converse of this headline (how much tax do immigrants pay?) I wager immgrants pay a heck of a lot more in tax than these sensational headlines claim immigrants cost.

Official figures show that 415,000 foreign nationals are benefiting from the perk, worth the equivalent of almost £100million every week.
