We often get asked what the difference is between a ‘coat of arms’ and a ‘crest’? Although the terms is often misused, the crest is actually the top part of a coat of arms, from above the helmet! Shown here is an eagle crest being engraved. The second image is a full coat of arms for the Johnson family. You can see the crest at the top of the arms, it is a spur between wings.

Desk Seal Fun

Our good friend and valued client from ‘across the pond’, Mr. Miller, has been having some fun with the desk seals we have created for him. We were so touched he had put the effort, imagination, and skill, into creating and sending this letter to us, that we wanted to share it with you.

As craftsmen it’s ultimately gratifying to see your work being used in the way it was intended.

Thanks again Mr. Miller!

Back in March last year we showed you work from our then ‘new’ apprentice, nearly one year on Joe Wright has been showing us what a prodigious talent he is. Classic heraldic crests ‘stags head couped’ and ‘dove of peace’ are shown here engraved on cornelian and bloodstone rings sourced from antique dealers.
