New Video: Root Climbing and Abseiling in Bohol

This is a most unusual adventure. Climbing the roots of trees exposed in a river gorge, then abseiling down again. You won’t find this on offer in many places. Would you give it a go?

NEW VIDEO: The Art Power Plant : Exploring Immersive Art at Kunstkraftwerk

What do you imagine you'd find in the old halls of a power plant? In Leipzig, the old power plant in Plagwitz has been transformed into a creative space, the Kunstkraftwerk.

It specialises in exhibiting deeply immersive and interactive art installations, some of which literally fill the giant halls. In smaller rooms around the plant, smaller exhibits wait to draw you in.

When we visited the main halls were closed for private functions, but we to explore exhibits in two 2018 shows, Visible Sound and Relations. Check out some of the work by artists using technology to create exciting, interactive, engaging and thought provoking art for visitors to Kunstkraftwerk.

NEW VIDEO: A day in the life of the Musical City of Leipzig

Leipzig is known as a city of music, with a rich musical heritage. Bach, Mendelssohn, Schumann, Wagner and other great classical composers lived or worked here and their heritage remains. But the music scene is not all rooted in the past, there's a lively and vibrant music scene today. And not just in the famous Opera House or Gewandhaus. We spent a day on the streets and visiting the churches and musical museums of Leipzig to get a feel for the musical vibe on the streets of a city of music.

NEW VIDEO: Test Your Skills as a Conductor

If you've ever wondered what it's like to conduct an orchestra you can find out at the Mendelssohn Haus Museum in Leipzig, a museum dedicated to showcasing the life and work of Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy.

The Effektorium is a fun installation on the ground floor of the Mendelssohn-Haus where you can take the conductor's stand complete with a digital score and face a virtual orchestra of 13 speakers set on stands in front of you.

Each speaker represents a different section of the orchestra (or choir) that you can conduct. You can choose to conduct several different orchestral or choral works by Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy and then your baton controls the tempo of the performance. You can also control the volume of different groups of instruments to fine tune the performance or tune into particular voices, creating your own personal vision of Mendelssohn's work.

It's great fun, educational and a real challenge.

NEW Move over boys, it's time for girls to show they're pretty curious

Engineering and technology. They’re for boys, right? Wrong! While they might have been in the past, there’s a growing movement to change this and encourage girls to study STEM subjects. And I heartily approve, although I hadn’t given much thought to my daughter’s career choices until R2D2 appeared on our doorstep. In this advertising post which explores EDF’s #prettycurious campaign, my daughter makes a droid and gets excited about STEM subjects while I realise I need to pay more attention to her options…

Nuremberg is a city of many sides. Sweet as local gingerbread and playful as a Playmobil figure, with a dazzling Imperial castle but also darker historical attractions from WWII days.

NEW POST - Sharing love & laughter learning Italian home cooking

Everyone knows Italy has a reputation for good food. But do you know about the traditions of home cooking, of the importance of cooking for life and love, with passion and with family?

We visited +Casa Artusi Soc.Cons.Arl. in Emilia Romagna, the home of Pellegrino Artusi, the famous chronicler of Italian home cooking to learn more about the man, his famous book (Science in the Kitchen and the Art of Eating Well) and to get our hands clean and dirty cooking piadina, the famous flat bread found in Emilia Romagna.

So how, did we get on? Watch and see. The lessons are as much about life as about food or eating. And the Mariettes (from the Associazione Mariette of Forlimpopoli) were a delight to work with. Like all the best mothers and grandmothers rolled into one. The bread tasted pretty good too.

You can read all about it on the blog
